Re: KOOLANCE EXC-800 and a -85C lab freezer

I know the intent, but I'm not looking at sub freezing temps. I called Koolance again and spoke to a tech this time around. (only sales available the last time) I feel more comfortable with the EXC now. - EXC-800 uses a linear piston compressor running 100% (constant on), power load is constant since EXC-800 compressor is always on, whether cooling or not. - Piston compressor is quieter than scroll. - Solenoid starts/stops refrigerant as needed, thus +/- 1C under heat load - heat load can be as minimal as 50w and still maintain temp. No load will affect temp regulation tolerances depending on ambient. - EXC-800 larger reservoir size helps maintain constant temps as compared to smaller unit EXC-450 - EXC-450 uses a standard DC scroll type compressor that cycles on/off, but has the in-rush for load/noise, too. - no humidity sensor so you will need to factor in condensation and settings based on your environment You could use the EXC with radiator, but it is unconventional for traditional PC extreme overclocking. By running it through a rad, it would be similar to a commercial chill water HVAC, but running inefficiently to prevent condensation. I probably won't need it if I keep coolant temps at 20-24C. Outside may hit 100% humidity, but inside should be mid 40% with AC on or 60-90% without AC. How do I hide this big black box with lights from wife... Was going to make a custom loop, but build cost already approaching $700. @bcavnaugh, got the system running? Working well?

wwxww Ummm...any Idea what batch that was sent back???
Koolance tech clarified on my call. He said last batch had a few with leaks. They can test units here, but send them back to factory for repair.

Can't wait to see your results. Intel only announced the 9900ks so I may hold off on the EXC until the new HEDT's are launched. At least Koolance is made in Korea so not affected as much as China made stuff. I may get a 1600w PS and use my 1200 as spare for my future VR build. Waiting for Valve Index. In the meantime, the KP is a very nice card to use.

It comes in Tomorrow but will not set it up until Sunday or Monday. Both rigs are ready to change over from the Custom Water Loop to connect the Chiller.

Great...I bought this KF and there is a new 9900 on the way. I was guessing the successor would come in Oct.

No details except 9900ks will run all cores at 5GHz boost and come with a base clock of 4GHz. It always happens. I plan on turning this combo into my VR box later this year if Valve Index looks good.

I heard background ambient sound on the youtube review. Is it as loud as it seems? Koolance said the 800's compressor never shuts off, only solenoid closes valve to stop cooling. EXC-450 PS may be louder and more annoying than the main unit while compressor is cycling. Not sure if it's the cooling fans and/or compressor noise.

It is loud but what I would expect from this unit so it was no surprise and as expected. This IMO is not a gamers cooler but I have broken all my last Benchmark records on my FTW3 Rig. I cannot wait until I start on my GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N Hydro Copper Rig.

Very nice. Looks really slick. I found with my KPE that once the liquid temps got down to ~0.5c I was able to hit 2235 in timespy and 2250 in firestrike, portroyal ect...

@bcavnaugh Nice setup for dedicated benching. EXC probably won't work since I want a "do-everything" setup. I think I'm committing to the ERM-3K3UC and may add an aqua chiller on the outlet later. I can run the chiller as needed, but mostly it'll be an inline reservoir. Not the most efficient, but similar to what Vile does. The Koolance ERM let's me be case independent and turn-key. Your next investment is a dehumidifier and double-conversion UPS?

Put anti freeze in it and take the settings down to -19 . Should give you about -5 on the head depending on ambient of course . My one runs fine .
