NVIDIA has always been Goliath in the AMD vs NVIDIA graphics card world. However, AMD has been garnering a lot of attention for their upcoming Navi GPUs. According to the information circulating the internet, NVIDIA is gearing up to refresh their RTX cards with more memory to combat the upcoming AMD GPUs. The new information is still a rumour and comes from RedGamingTech. He cites sources which claim that Nvidia is planning to use faster video memory in its RTX cards.

This will not include the Turing based GTX products like the 1660 or the 1650 GPU’s. The new cards are expected to get a boost from 14Gbps to 16Gbps in terms of memory speed.

Haven't heard too much on this rumor so I remain a little skeptical.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

It really doesn't make sense. Only way this would benefit anyone is if the 14Gbps was too slow and the move to 16Gbps would be an improvement. Since we have seen the 2080 and the 2070 score the same in benchmarks since they both would run into the limitations of the memory speed of 1400MHz and 8Gb. It's possible that we could see better memory used inside and it could go to 1600MHz but it wouldn't really change performance. It's also important to keep in mind the 11Gbps of the 1080Ti didn't seem to be an issue for 4K gaming.

Last I heard, all you do is to OC your current VRAM to +250 and that should get you the 16Gbps.

I am still extremely surprised they haven't lowered the prices yet.... I guess Nvidia is saving that move for when Navi launches .

They are being sued, I do not think they will be lowering prices until they are forced to in order to stay competitive.

They need to integrate HDMI 2.1 as well.

so this proves Navi is faster after all? As time passes by, the truth comes to light by the day....and the defenders of Nvidia hide.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

We will see. It's exciting times! The rumors make Navi sound very appealing. In comparison to NVIDIA, the rumored price is amazing. We know that at least one Navi model will have GDDR6 memory and will have quite high power requirements. The rumor I read was RTX 2070 performance (minus real time ray tracing support) for somewhere in the $300s.

All I know is that GCN with Vega and Navi tops out at maybe 4K shaders before some tweaking is needed to handle more execution units

If they do increase the speeds they would almost have to lower the prices on the older cards or do an instant discount. I would also think if AMD does release a good product then a price cut could happen but first we would need to see it in benchmarks.

The other way we could see this happen is just a silent rollout of faster memory. If they are just getting after memory at the same price we could just see it not even really mentioned until they sell out of the slower cards. Of course this is always based on the rumors being true. I personally don’t think it would make that much of a real world performance difference.

AMD Radeon Navi GPUs ‘731F:C1 & 7310:00’ With 1 GHz Clock Speed and 8 GB Memory Spotted in 3DMark and AOTS Benchmarks

    https://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-navi-gpu-specs-performance-3dmark-aots-leak-out/

The two AMD Navi GPU variants are not the same since they have a different device id. The variant which has the specifications featured on 3DMark is the ‘731F: C1’ and it comes with a clock speed of 1000 MHz and 8 GB of memory that is clocked in at 1250 MHz. Now what is interesting about this memory clock is that if we speculate that it’s GDDR5 based, then that would translate to 5 GHz which is quite low for a 256-bit variant that this card seems to be.

I wouldn't buy an AMD GPU if you gave me the money to do it.

Pieces of garbage....Never has one worked out of the box for me. Nvidia always works out of the box for me.

Your mileage may vary...you may buy whatever you wish...I will not leave Nvidia until I have a good reason to do so.

5FPS faster isn't good enough of a reason. I prefer my peace of mind.

I am still extremely surprised they haven't lowered the prices yet.... I guess Nvidia is saving that move for when Navi launches .
The last time I remember nVidia lowering prices in response to an AMD debut was GTX280 versus HD4870.  GTX280 debuted at $649, a week later AMD debuted HD4870 at $299, reviews revealed the AMD card 17% slower in games on average, making a pair of HD4870 much more worth it than one GTX280.  Three weeks later, nVidia lowered prices of GTX280 to $449 (while AMD actually raised prices to deal with short supply from high demand).  EVGA, BFG and XFX gave out rebates to angry early-adopters-- I was against such a move.

Navi won't do this type of damage to nVidia's RTX2000's, that's why prices aren't going to come down.  At first, this rumor confused me, at best Navi 10 will be at the RTX2070 level of performance, it doesn't threaten anything else-- except by price.  Navi 10 will be so much cheaper than RTX2070 that nVidia is making their premium models faster to justify their price in the presence of AMD.  That's the only logical conclusion and cheapest way to boost performance.
