I upgraded from a LG 34" ultra wide 2560x1080p 144hz to their newer 34" 1440p 144hz version at $1200 bucks and now I'm somewhat disappointed. Seems I need a better computer. I'm currently using an Alienware Aurora R8 with an i7 8700k and 2080 (non ti). Even with the Alienware set to the highest overclocking I"m getting a dismal 2800 in Heaven 4.0. The 2560x1080p unit was getting about 5800. I should've released that with about twice as many pixels I would get about 1/2 the performance. I'm gonna keep the LG 1440p Ultra Wide (a really great display) so I need some suggestions on where to start with a new build that will provide much better performance. I think i probably need either a 1080ti or 2080ti and better cpu. Unfortunately, I don't think the Alienware unit could support a 2080ti with it's high power requirements. I'm not a big fan of heavy overclocking as I want a long term stable solution that will provide the best performance for gaming so I'll probably run stock clocks unless you convince me otherwise.
Any suggestions on where to start?

Keep in mind Heaven 4.0 is a benchmark. The real question is do you have to lower quality settings in games? It's really the only thing that really matters when you think about it... unless you have a dream of being the top of the leaderboards and knocking off Kingpin.

I'm getting about 70 fps in Witcher 3 which isn't too bad actually. Game play is smooth. I was able to set up the display for g-sync compatibility in nVidia control panel @144hz and it seemed to accept it just fine. No tearing or stuttering in any games. I also set the games I play in nvidia control panel to "fast" for vsync and in the games themselves to "vsync off" if the option is there.

My Alienware Aurora R8 has a desktop app that allows you to set overclocking to either 01 or 02 and temp to either balanced or performance and power to either balanced or high performance. Unfortunately, it is somewhat dumbed down only allowing a max overclock of 4.3ghz. Also, the memory seems to be have really slow timings. I mean REALLY SLOW. I'll have to check if the Alienware case is large enough to accept a 2080ti and if the power supply is big enough to support it. Maybe a memory upgrade, an upgrade to a 2080ti and power supply to support it will kick this unit into a whole new class. This would be cheaper than a whole new computer but concerns of temperature would still remain since the Alienware case is small and might create an oven effect.
