Greetings all,
I am new to the EVGA forums or any forums at all for that matter.
I purchased an EVGA GTX 1080 Hybrid FTW a few months ago (Probably in February), from a second hand seller. I have been noticing artifacts or possible artifacts, I am unsure exactly what it is specifically. It shows the most during youtube videos when it is a vlog or a face on the screen that is speaking, the skin color distorts pretty badly.
Is there anything I can do to fix this card?
It was slightly OC'd but never overheated or even close to. I backed off of the overclock, reset the computer and the issue persisted.
I updated the drivers just in case it was that and same issue still.
Is the GPU toast? or can I fix it? I have it running on a Dell 4k 60hz monitor that is brand new, It could be the monitor but I dont think it is.

The GPU has never crashed though, even in Heaven 4.0 or Superposition and it still can render games/scenes in UE4.
It is more annoying during you tube videos and games; and I am worried that it will lead to a larger problem or fried card.

Any help would be amazing.

You don't notice the artifacts in games/benchmarks at all? Only place you see them is on youtube? Try disabling hardware acceleration inside your web browser to see if that helps fix the issue.

I just tried that and issue still persists. I have tried it in Chrome and Firefox. \
I during benchmarks there are lines that move where the lighting changes, they arent the wrong color, just seems to be lagging or not refreshing fast enough possibly. I thought the lines in benchmarks were due to the monitor, but it could be the GPU as well.

Sounds like you're seeing screen tearing. Turn v-sync on.

I just checked how it runs on Apex Legends and there is no issue at all. This is a very odd issue..
I dont have a vsync monitor.
Would screen tearing make peoples skin look odd in youtube videos? It seems to be worse with lighter color objects.

So, I did some testing to see if it was the browser.
To do this I downloaded a video from youtube @1080p 60fps and played it back through Windows Media Player.
Very hopeful that it was just the browser and not the card or monitor.
Sadly, the issue persisted and might be worse on the playback on the actual video.
Is this screen tearing? artifacting? or what would solve the issue.

If you're truly getting artifacts underclocking the gpu core & memory to max negative clocks using msi afterburner may stop the issue.

I would call EVGA Tech Support and start an RMA ASAP

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

It sounds like video compression issues to me. If you miss a keyframe here and there, the compression makes the image all smeared until the next keyframe is displayed. This would be something you would likely solve by repairing the video codec or installing the correct missing codec which was replaced by some other sub-optimal/buggy codec.

I doubt it is a video card problem.

Does it look like this?

Is it especially likely to happen if you skip forward, back, pause, stop, or start the video somewhere in the middle?

About inter-frame video compression:

At 4:02 : the effect I am picturing is what you are describing. Missing "i-frame". "I-frame"? I dunno. Thought it was called a keyframe. "I-frame" for interleaved frame? Dunno. Anyway, is that the kind of "artifacts" you are seeing?

So I am currently trying to get a screenshot of the problem to post it. It is not near as bad as that horrible example luckily.
But whenever I pause the video it comes back to perfect resolution.
This makes me think it would be more of a screen tearing issue. But I dont know what to do about screen tearing

Like it was stated before, be sure to turn V-Sync on. Also be sure to do a full reset of the monitor color/brightness setting. I know when I went from my 770 to my 1070, even though I had the same monitor, I needed to re-calibrate from factory defaults to get it back to respectable.

? You'll find the v-sync option under the nvidia control panel 3d settings not on the tv/monitor.

V-sync is an option built into the GPU driver. It is available on all video cards no matter the monitor you're using. All it does is sync your GPU frame output with your monitor's refresh rate at the cost of response time. What you are thinking of is G-sync & Free-sync which does require using monitor that has the tech built in. They both basically allow you to have a viewing experience like you are using v-sync without the response time penalty.

Does this issue occur over multiple gpu drivers? If you test the card in another computer does the issue follow the card?

Re: EVGA GTX 1080 Hybrid FTW Artifacts (I Think) 2019/05/08 07:08:52 (permalink)
Just to update everyone.
I moved back from school and tried the monitor on another PC and the issue was still there.
When I moved the monitor over to my PC the problem got worse and there was extreme screen tearing to the point of being almost unusable (This looked completely different than the problem I had when I started the thread).
I then reset my monitor to factory settings, set my GPU to the highest OC I could get, Forced Vsync on always, and messed with other Vsycn related setting and all is good now!
Thanks for everyone who helped!
