Scan & Test buttons on X1 software

Hello, how exactly do these buttons work? Do you make adjustments then hit test or scan, or leave everythingthing stock and what exactly is the difference between test and scan. And the number it displays after scanning means how much higher you can go on the clock speed? Thanks and excuse my newbie question.

    Scan = Auto oc's your card.
    Test = allows you to test your manually imputed core clock value.
