Hello,

Quick summary: new build using EVGA Z390 FTW will not power on. Board does not power on when pressing power button on board or case. Post code "F"

Parts
EVGA Z390 FTW
Intel i7-9700k
2 x Corsair Vengence LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 SDRAM 2666MHz (PC4-21300)
EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti XC Ultra
Samsung EVO 860 SSD 1tb
Antec 550W HE 24+8pin  - This is the only part that isn't new out of box, i pulled it out of my current build, and is still good having taken it out of the new build and reinstalled in old.
CORSAIR Hydro Series H80I v2
NZXT H500

Completed full build using parts above. The 5VSB led light white when PSU powered on. Hit power and nothing. Press and hold reset button and nothing.
GTX requires 500W PSU or higher, I'm close but should be good. All the same removed the GTX card and no change.
Removed DIMMs from slots 2, 3,and 4 with no change. Removed DIMM from slot 1 and tried only slot 2 still same.
At this point I plugged in the bios update usb stick into the bios update usb connector on the board. Power button still does nothing but pressing and holding the reset button begins a countdown at 4 on post code indicator. When it hits 0 fans power on for the first time. Post code indicator "spins" around the outside edge for about 60 seconds the displays code "F" which isn't listed in the manual or on the post code list online. Fans power off as soon as code F is displayed. I removed the usb stick and power still does nothing but holding reset button starts countdown, "spins" for about 10 seconds then shows code F again. Fans only power on with usb stick inserted.

Does anyone have any thought about what I should try next or what the post code F means?

Thanks

Post code F doesn't seem to be a valid post code. Might want to contact evga support to see what they have to say about it.

Thanks, that's all I was able to determine too. I'm beginning to wonder if the LED display (and who knows what else on the board) for the 2nd character is bad and I'm just seeing the first character of a code.

    Hi

I had the exact same problem, and I recently found the solution.

The BIOS is not updated to recognize your CPU (I have an i5 9600k). You need to find an older CPU and update the bios (v 1.05 works well).

He has a Z390 board and should not need to update the BIOS for the board to recognize his CPU. This would be true in the case of a Z370 board however without the update BIOS to support the CPU.

If you were to remove the RAM, or even everything including the CPU, would you get a different POSt code error such as Code '55', or 'C'? Testing for '55' (No memory installed) would help determine if the Debug LED output has an issue if it only shows one number.

Well I have a Z390 board (the FTW) with an i5 9600K and I had to update the BIOS (to the version 1.05) to get through the 7F POST code

Interesting. This typically is not the case. Always worth trying though. The 1.05 BIOS update did add some compatibility and support for KF SKUs so you never know! :)

Yes it is worth checking. The only problem is to find an 8th gen CPU to update the bios.

    Let us know !
