Hello,
I previously posted this on a Chief Architect Forumm;

I wanted to upgrade my two 20" monitors to a single 34" monitor until I realized my two AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series cards don't support that monitor.

My system is as follows:

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

OS Name    Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

Version    10.0.17763 Build 17763

System Type    x64-based PC

BaseBoard Product    P8P67 DELUXE;

BaseBoard Version    Rev 1.xx

Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    16.0 GB

Total Virtual Memory    32.0 GB

My question is what card or cards would work best to run Chief x6 (and later the new version) on my system which I imagine is an old school system by now, but is what I've got.

Thank you!
Todd

    Chief Architect, architectural software?

    What resolution does your new monitor run?  I highly doubt the 6900 series won't display an output  You may need to lower the resolution and use display adapters though.

    The i7 2600K is pretty old and limits you to PCI-E 2.0. Even a i3 8100 is better than that CPU now. If you are looking for a GPU replacement I would suggest a GTX 1060.

    so what would be a comprable CPU to the i7 2600 K into days technology and I would no doubt need a new motherboard? If I can get a motherboard a CPU and the GPU all updated that would be nice assuming it's not too expensive would really appreciate recommendations for that thank you
    I was trying not to change the motherboard out cuz I think if I do Microsoft will make me pay for my version of Windows 10 that I just got for free for an upgrade, but whatever

    You can deactivate the windows key from the motherboard and reuse it on a new board.

    With the computer connected to the internet do this.

    To uninstall Windows 10 Product Key
    Press Windows key + X then click Command Prompt (Admin). At the command prompt, enter the following command: slmgr.vbs /upk.
    Hit enter.

    You're welcome.
    If you're going to upgrade, take a look at the z370/z390 board and a 6 core i5-8600k or 8 core i7-9700k .
    They are reasonable in price and great performance. I have had good luck with Gskill memory.
    With those CPU get memory 3ghz or better, as they do like fast memory.
    Look into those and see if they fit your needs.
    Or maybe a x99 board and a used E5-1650V3 xeon hexcore 6/12 off ebay 175$ or so from recyclers  and DDRr4-2400 memory

    Good luck with what ever you do

    As far as GPU would an AMD vega56 or the 580 work? If you want to stay with AMD that is.
    Nvidia 1060 or a GTX 1070 or 1080. They can be found used for a reasonable price now.
    I am not sure if the software you use, never used it, but I would say the newer GPUs are a lot better than the older one you have now.
    Again good luck

    I have many AMD cards but none have been HBM cards , best card RX 570 8Gb for it's price and lower 150 watt package and I have a RX 580 8Gb is why i say that because 60 fps Ultra 1080p was all I ever ask for if you get it with game keys = almost free

    Make sure your running good power and a clean install on new SSD and that 2600K may be fast enough in some games as my 2200g is 4 core and it plays hard .
