I am looking hard at replacing my mobo and i7 7700k when I finally replace my last 980ti with a 2080ti. From what i have read, the 9900k is overkill and for the most part over priced, but i would like something I wont need to upgrade in a year or two.

Do you do CPU intensive work with your PC ?

Plans for more than 1 GPU ?

What other hardware will you need PCIe lanes for ?

not really, no rendering or anything. right now the only thigns the PCIe lanes will be would be the 2080ti and I am considering useing the 980ti to power my other 2 monitors which are used only for web, or messenger. possibly another game  from time to time. I mostly do not want to be bottlenecked by my CPU a year or two down the line.

IMO going from 7700k to 8700k not worth it, the 9900k if within budget as COOL GTX said would be a much better option, from my experience with my 9900k coming from 6700k I

saw a good improvement. Also overclocking it to 5.0 all cores was easy just changing one setting to accomplish. It only runs a bit warmer with 8 cores at 5.0 than the 6700k with 4

    cores at 4.7.
