Hey everyone, I just recently built a new rig not to long ago running windows 10 64bit and seem to be having a small ongoing issue with my SSD that may be turning into something else. So basically since the first boot of the computer my OS seems to recognize my SSD as if it's plugged into a USB header  . It shows up on my tool bar as a removable drive. Which makes zero sense to me since it's plugged into a SATA header on the board. I have a Z370 MB and have the current updated bios installed. It just starting giving me a 9C (usb detect) post code the other day. Beeps a few times then go's into normal boot mode. I don't know why since I don't have anything new plugged into any of usb headers. Weird thing is, is that it doesn't seem to be affecting performance from what I can tell. No issues with crashing or file transfers, opening/closing files ect…. Anyone else ever ran into this issue?? I'm stumped, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like a bios bug. Does the issue occur over multiple bios versions?

So far yes. It occurred on the original version when I first set the PC up and is still there after the latest updated bios. It's almost as if some of my SATA buses are being read as USB. Scrambled eggs in there.

Which Driver are you using ? The Win 10 one -OR- the Samsung driver ? Is the SATA port that the SSD is connected to ---> is it "Hot Plug/Swap" ---> enabled in BIOS ? If your on a Marvel SATA port ---> Move to an Intel SATA port (Intel is Faster) Internal SATA Drives show up as removeable media 6 steps that include a Registry Edit

Ok so I found out the driver is a windows 10 driver and apparently is up to date. I also tried the command prompt trick and typed in the command for "windows 8 and later" but had no luck. Just keeps telling me the system can't find the path specified. Maybe I'll just try updating the driver and see what happens. It gave me the option too although it says it's up to date.

It's not a big deal, it's when hot swap is enabled. When you see it on your system more, you'll disregard it and it won't bother you. When I use hot swap, I don't even eject the drive unless it's an actual USB drive. Nothing to worry about.

Ok so quick update. I was a slight dumbass and didn't realize there was a bios update just recently released lol. I did the flash and that fixed my USB post code issue. While I was in BIOS resetting my OC and what not I turned off the hot swap option for the port my SSD is plugged into and the damn thing STILL shows up as a removable drive LOL! I guess I'll just live with it

Is an eSATA port maybe? I know they show up as removable.

Edit the Registry like Cool GTX said in Post #4..See how that rolls.
I always create a System Restore Point before editing the Registry, like everybody really should.

It might show nothing in the eject area but still, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yea I'm not worried at this point. I did try the registry edit but for some reason it just kept saying that it couldn't find the path specified. I typed it in exactly as it was shown too, multiple times, just to make sure and I got nada. Thanks for all the help though guys much appreciated

Just disable hot swap for that SATA port in the BIOS
