I updated the #1 bios for the dark to 1.04 in the bios in the "extras" section. Seemed to brick it. After the update finished the system restarted, turned off, then back on for a second and back off again and then nothing. I was told to boot into windows with #2 bios flip the switch back to #1 and run the .bat file in the update to "refresh" #1 bios. Didn't fix it. Starting with #1 system comes on for a sec then back to forever off. I have a ticket in with support, anyone else run into this problem? Any thoughts?

Use the USB that came with the motherboard and try the procedure on Page 129 of the manual.

For anyone having a similar issue I followed the instructions for flashing the BIOS without a CPU on page 143. Turn power off, switch to the bios that is bricked, insert EVGA flash drive in the USB port next to the start button, turn power on then push hold the reset button. It will count down from 4, when the 0 disappears it will start the process and you can release the reset button. So all is good except even flashing this way with version 1.04 the MB will still not boot. Powers on for a second then shuts off. Have to switch bios or flash it back to get it working again. Would really like to use 1.04 as I'm have other problems I'll go into in another post. Thanks for the help.

If you have a corrupted BIOS and also have a BIOS that is able to post, boot in the working BIOS and switch the toggle to the corrupted BIOS after you are in the working BIOS. Insert USB flash drive, select the BIOS file, and then re-flash. After the restart, you will be running in the use to be corrupted BIOS.

I'm observing worse memory overclocking :/ on 1.03 I'm able to boot 4500 17-18-18-32-2 1.51v 1.25vccsa 1.24vccio but with 1.04 I can't boot 4500 at all (even with higher voltages).

are the OC profiles being kept here after an update?

does it let you decide in which slot you want the bios to update to run 2 bios'es concurrently?

No, saved profiles are wiped with the bios update.

Wow...I meant to say Page 143 in my original post.  I don't know how I blew that one.  I am glad you found what I intended.  I'm sorry it did not solve your issue.

lol no problem I thought maybe you had a weird manual. What you suggested did work to get the bios' working so thank you. Just wish I could get 1.04 working. I'm concerned that 1.05 will do the same thing. My MB might be defective but swapping it out would be a royal pain.

I had 1.04 brick two bios slots. Tried updating via bios while on the phone with texh support, also tried via windows. Neither time worked. Those two bios slots never worked again.

Did you do what I did to flash them back to 1.03? It at least gets them working. Maybe 1.05 will be better. If it ain't I'll be sending this board back. Currently I have bios 2 with 1.04 in case a solution is found but 1 and 3 are working.

Cool GTX
I'm in the - if it works - Don't try to Fix it

+1 for the golden rule: If it's not broken, don't fix it! There is always a risk when updating a BIOS.
But sometimes, a BIOS update isn't about fixing something but to bring more performance, so it is very tempting.
With a motherboard having two BIOS chips, there should be no reason not to do it, but some are experiencing problems.

You can switch to the 2nd bios and update that bios to the new one and keep bios one original to test #2.. Then you need to screenshot your settings in bios #1 and hand jam them into bios #2

OK New build
i7-9970
Z390 FTW
970 EVO M2
EVGA RTX 2080 Ti
EVGA 100- G3 PSU
Windows 10 64 bit USB

Working great was getting 200fps in COD 4 with overclock kept experiencing WHEA uncorrectable error
Re-flashed BIOS to 1.05
Now computer boots to BIOS only windows won't start.
First error message: CMOS Checksum Error and CPU and Memory have changed
reset CMOS now error message; CMOS Checksum error reset doesn't seem to help UEFI and HDD are set up correctly
can't find previous version to load
following errors show on screen: 9C, B4, 99 and LED at start; 7F,A6, A9

I once had a similar problem, everything was setup appropriately in the BIOS but Windows wouldn't start.
For an unknown reason, I had to manually enter the memory timing and speed. Then it would be smooth sailing on calm water!

That's all I can suggest, sorry if it doesn't help.

Hi there,
does anyone know if the z390 Dark's older bios will support the new R0 stepping to run Win10?
And if not, does this updated bios version support the new stepping?

Hi,

Before reading your question I had zero knowledge about CPU steppings.
You gave me the opportunity to learn a bit today. :)

My suggestion would be to contact EVGA and ask them directly.
They usually answer quickly, and you'll know for sure you're getting a reliable information.

Once you get an answer, please come back and share it, so people having the same question would easily find the answer.

My memory is fuzzy on if 1.04 supports R0, but 1.06 definitely does.
