Hi,

Today my gpu sparked and went up in smoke it is the EVGA gtx 980 ti sc edition.
I got this card from a RMA and it is only a year old but this is now the second time a gtx 980ti dies on me.

I'm not blaming EVGA for any of this on the contrary i can only praise them for their customer service so far but I'm scared of getting another gtx 980ti (if i can get an RMA for this one)

Is this a know issue from this generation of cards or am i just unlucky ?

Best regards

It didn't actually catch on fire. If it caught on fire, you would have had to extinguish it. Don't be over dramatic.

Yes, it has become a common failure.

Having working in electronics for many decades, I can assure you and not be overly dramatic that electronics do catch fire and can do so in spectacular fashion and extinguish on their own. In fact, electronic fires do this almost every time as both protection circuits and the limited combustible material usually make them self-limiting. If you see flames, it caught fire, right?  Lets be nice to each other.

We call it letting the smoke out, but in this case I guess the fire got let out too lol.  I tell ya the smell of burnt circuits is second only to the smell of burnt hair.
