I believe the EVGA driver package installs drivers for the following USB interfaces present on the Nu Audio card in the 0.1.1 EVGA driver dated 2/1/2019. These three probably will show up in your Device Manager under USB Controllers.

- ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
- ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
- ASMedia USB3.1 eXtensible Host Controller

The initial versions of these drivers installed during my card install were dated September 2018. I experienced intermittent sound choppiness and dropout during music playback from all sources - Youtube in Chrome, Soundcloud in Brave, MP3 and FLAC in Winamp through both the DirectSound and WaveOut outputs. My troubleshooting found no excess delayed procedure calls, and LatencyMon believed my system should have no problems playing realtime audio, but my sound signal was still dropping randomly.

I manually "updated" each of the default ASMedia drivers in Device manager using Update Driver --> Search automatically for updated driver software, and picked the one found by Windows for all three ASMedia controller entries.

This "updated" driver turned out to be an older version of the driver than was installed with my card. The version found by Microsoft was 1.16.38.1, dated August 2016, but in the hour of testing all audio sources since changing the ASMedia USB controller drivers to the older Microsoft version, I've had zero audio dropout or stutter.

Will report back if I start getting stutter again. I hope this helps others experiencing the same issue. Maybe the subsequent EVGA driver package can enforce this version of the ASMedia USB controller drivers.

Fulgore243,

I want to take a moment to say thank you for posting and giving a very good walkthrough of what you did. Hopefully everything is working pristine, and you get to enjoy your card for a long time to come :-)

The bad drivers (dated Sep 2018) which stuttered were installed either by Microsoft or the EVGA driver package when I first installed the card, I don't know which.

The good drivers were found by the auto-update function of Microsoft's "Update Driver" then "Search automatically for updated driver software" function in Device Manager.

I tried to find original drivers on ASMedia's site but it was a futile effort.

That is what I was thinking.
Every time I would download and install their driver Microsoft would install their Driver over it even if newer.
I update mine this way a well now. We will see how well it goes maybe this Friday.

What's the make/model of your motherboard? The EVGA card would account for only one of the USB3.0 controllers, so the other two probably are built into your motherboard. Perhaps the bad driver came from your motherboard's bundled installation software? I don't find any ASMedia drivers at all in the current EVGA Nu driver package.

Just as an observation -             (Clarification this is on and X299 Dark MB, just using the onboard sound - no other add in devices with added USB ports)

I looked at what I had listed for my system for USB controllers - just have the 1 ASMedia on the motherboard and an Intel one
I compared the driver details (sorry I didn't bother to take screen shots) between the two - both used the same MS driver version 10.0.17763.1 dated 9/14/2018
Just for the hell of it I right clicked on the ASMedia driver and told it to check for updated drivers - it changed the driver, now it is the 1.16.38.1 dated 8/29/2016
Also told the Intel one to update but it stayed with the current MS driver

SO,, It looks like on OS install (Windows 10) and subsequent board driver package installs the MS driver gets loaded = Even thought MS HAS the correct driver from ASMedia in their catalog by default they push their generic driver, so unless you actively say to update you won't get it

Edit note:
Just found this little tidbit for you guys: MS Update driver catalog for the ASMedia USB controller - https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=asmedia

I have a 2016-era EVGA X99 FTW K motherboard with the current BIOS (2.06). That is possible, I could have inherited a bad driver from somewhere else.
