Never heard of this, and not sure where that is coming from.

What makes your friend blame the motherboard? Also, there is absolutely no details in your post to understand what happened.

    What other forums?

Make him come here and explain so we can see what happened
Wild guess - he used an old power supply and it died

I sure have not heard of anything like this.
Mine has been running smooth as silk now for over three weeks, very happy.

Yeah, after looking up quite a few different combinations of wording, I can’t seem to find any other place where this is posted.

I have a feeling your friend did something wrong and killed his stuff on his own, and it wasn’t the motherboards fault.

Send the MB to EVGA for evaluation through the RMA system

We have no way of evaluating that "claim" as you can not present any Details & photos

My web searches show no such claims being made - about the EVGA Z390 Dark

(So, because we have no actual Facts - My best Guesses are below)

Sounds like that would require a Power issue or Operator error:

    1) Installed with a major short to ground ? - operator error
    2) Improper assembly ? - operator error
    3) Non-compatible wires used on a PSU ? - operator error
    4) A power surge from the outlet ? - operator error, should always use a surge protector
    5) Something spilled on the PC ? - operator error
    6) Defective PSU ?
