This might be interesting once they get out there.  Some of the compute testing had them 50% faster than the 2080 depending on task.

Yup, I can see your point.  Changed the title to be more clear.

Information found at anandtech... Looks like it falls short of the 2080 at single precision but smokes it at double precision.  Anyone care to translate that for me?

It will be good for Milkyway and the bigger primegrid genfer  20/21 projects.
    They use Double precision calculations.
But the 1080Ti without good DP, still is not as good as the old Titan 6gb is with DP,  in PG genfer 20 21
The Titan6gb is better than the 1080Ti in Milkyway.
So, I am thinking new GPU with fairly good DP, it will be a good buy if you do Milkyway.
Will have to see what it does with PG genfer.
Folding does not use DP, it uses single precision.

It's a tweaked Vega 56 with faster clocks. Shows a solid performance uplift vs cega 56/64 but only has equivalent of Vega 60 in cores. It's a rebadged Instinct card with broken manual overclocking according to @gamersnexus. Something about changing the Api calls and lousy heat sink contact on the GPU complex.

If only they had made any gains on power efficiency for this card. I sure hope Navi gets some power efficiency gains. This is turning embarrassing for AMD in my view as they are almost as bad as Intel in trading power consumption for speed.

Folding at home finally responded to my request yesterday to get it added to the gpu.txt file, and have been able to run a few work units. I've been tweaking settings the whole time so not the most consistent numbers, but 866k to 1.6mill ppd, at about 150 watts above idle (using corsair icue psu wattage number).

Thanks, that's better than my 1080sc2 for sure.  I usually got about 750-800 IIRC, no O/C or tweaked settings.

Folding on windows 10. Been getting mostly 1-1.1 ppd on work units, with occasional to 1.4-1.6.

It’s only looking to be better the double. Not sure I would consider that worth it because I fold in my spare time but game for fun. I wouldn’t buy a card because it folds better then it games.

I have seen a lot of review for this card and everyone of them says it games just fine. Not seen any bad reviews by people that owns one
It is really good at DP and other projects and plays games with no issues.
Must be fairly good it is sold out

I don't know what about R7 but my Vega56 can make between 500k and 1m, depends on the project. To compare, my 1080Ti can make 1m-1.2m so the difference between projects is much lower. In the same time RTX2060 can make 800k-1m and costs nearly 50% of R7, not to mention lower wattage.

This spreadsheet tends to be my go-to for ballparking GPU folding performance when new stuff launches. Going to be very, very interesting to see where Intel's GPUs fall next year...
