Anyone go hunting? I figured, I'm into guns and I'd like to use them for more than just range time.

Plus, deer sounds good once in a while, yeah? =D

Does anyone go hunting? If so, What rifle / caliber do you use and what do you hunt? I believe here there's a 2 deer per person limit and even then, it's done in a "Drawing" sort of way, so you're not promised the tags you pay for.

My friend is also getting his, so it'll be 2 of us, which makes for a potential of 4 tags per license year. I've seen a couple hunting videos using .450 BM's so I might just purchase a scope for my .450 chambered AR and use that. :)!

    I do.

Typically I use my 30-06. I also use .300 Win Mag sometimes. But over the years I have taken deer, Elk, Bear and Moose with .357 Mag Marlin lever, .308, .270, .44 Mag Marlin lever, .375 H&H.

    Love them all.

Hunting regulations vary from state to state, even county to county in any given state.
Make sure you know the rules for the county you plan to hunt in.

In the county I live in in NY for dear we can only use a shotgun with slugs for big game.
For small game we can use a rifle or shotgun or even a pellet gun that can do 600FPS or more
Plus there is Bow season and black powder season for dear.

I have a Benjamen break barrel  NP2 .22 pellet gun. for small game/pest control. Sound suppressed, very quiet.
Pellet guns today will put a .22 pellet through 3/4 in plywood. Bigbore PCP 357,45,50 will drop a dear at 100 yards easy.
But bigbore pneumatic guns are not cheap. Only a few states allow big game with a PCP rifle, more to come.
I have a Jennings Super T2 bow for archery season. Not tried black powder yet.
Not been able to get out hunting the last few years, hope to get out next Fall though.

    Recap
Know the regulations where you hunt
    Be careful
Consider an air gun for small game. Very cheap ammo and fun to shoot.

I can also say that an air rifle is a good option for small game rabbits, pigeon, squirrels. In Scotland you were able to have an air rifle at 12 foot pounds of power with out a licence so all you needed was the land owners permission to shoot on it. That has all changed now as you need a licence for any air rifle.
