Used to love going on these forums, only seem to log on and look around every 6 months or so. Been pretty out of the loop for a couple of years now. Had an issue balancing hobbies. Got a jeep, all my money and time went into that. But! I'm attempting to get back into this world, and i thought a new post here would be a start. Bought a new GPU yesturday for this aging brick i call my PC.....x58 i7-960 and a gtx 2070...wonder how bad that'll bottleneck. If it is that bad looks like i might just go all the way and build a whole new computer.... Anyway! Hope I see some old faces, hope anyone remembers me! (just noticed my signature is referencing people complaining how badly bf3 was running, guess thats an example on how long iv been out)

All i can say welcome back and depending on your budget you can still get a decent Rig if you like AMD CPUs if not you can sit and wait for the next new thing coming later this year.
As per the RTX 2070 being a bottleneck on your i7 960, it depends if you have the CPU running at 4Ghz and up, you wont see as much, but you if dont, then you might have an issue.

Much as I like the X58 platform, I'd say it's time for an upgrade (except the GPU). Watch the For Sale section of this forum, some good deals come up there from time to time.. I should be posting a few things there myself in the next week or two as it happens. p.s. BF1 is the best so far, imo. The relatively new BFV(5) is suited more for team playing, but if you don't have a regular crew you play with and your style is to do your own thing and not have to depend on others (or be depended upon by others), BFV is not for you. Just sayin'...

i had my processor running at 4ghz in the past, i could bring it back up there if need be. Was also looking at those zeons on ebay for like 70 bucks if i need alittle extra push.
and i do have battlefield 1, i played for like 30 minutes when i bought it cause my 770 sucked.

Welcome back. I would recommend some stream sales if you like single player. A lot of good games come out cheap during the Steam sales.

Welcome back Arctic. I surely remember the nic, and you had a quite different avatar. But the new one is cool! Vehicles and money....that's why I don't have any toys like that anymore. They can be a great source of fun and pride. Nice to see you back around. Hope your new GPU works great for you.

Welcome back. If you have an X58 SLI3, FTW3, or Classified3 Models you can upgrade that processor to an Xeon X5690. I've seen them used on sale for 100 dollars and less.

Build a new one...you won't be sorry...tho if I were you I might wait for the Ryzen 3000 series, just to see how they pan out and what Intel does.

If a whole new build is happening it won't be till maybe the beginning of the summer. Going away later this month and i still need to spend more money on the jeep to get it ready for this wheeling season ahahahah. Computer hasent regained all my attention. (does not help i work at a jeep/4x4 shop). Really whats getting me back into this was my cousin getting me hooked on the anthem demo and i was not enjoying my 20fps....I went from 3 gtx 470's back in my computers hayday to a 770.....im ready for a real modern card to play games again... Also i dont know if i could ever bring my self to use AMD...lol....(just being stubborn...)

Random question since this thread is still up......got my code to redeem on nvidia's website with the new card....says the code is invalid. That mean supplies are already gone and i'm sol? Is what it is....but i was really hoping to not have to buy anthem too lmao never mind....i got it to work...know i should of just made a new thread...and also learned i dont remember how to delete posts....so here we are...

Drop a x5660 in that FTW3 and have some fun overclcoking it. 4-4.4 ghz is doable. 6 cores 12 threads 32nm runs cooler than the older CPUs. And it is 14$ Lot of CPU for 14$ Buss unlocked If you need some help with the settings i can get you started, I had two FTW3 boards with x5660 CPUs https://www.ebay.com/itm/...f:1&frcectupt=true Here is a w3680 that is multiplier and buss unlocked for 50$ it is the xeon ver of the i7-980x Buy a nice used 1080Ti to go with it and you will be very happy. Thats why i like my old POS grand cherokee, have replaced everything on it at least once at this point....if i ever completely crush it i can buy another for less then 5k and put all my stuff on it that i have now. Also they just had one of the gladiators (the name they chose for the new pickup over scrambler) in the Every Mans Challenge of king of the hammers. Probably one of the biggest offroad races in the world, they managed to snake that long thing through the course. Did pretty dang good. Its also not much longer then a typical truck of today 137" Wheelbase. Frame entirely is about 204"

Also got my 2070 up and running already started to see how well it overclocks lol. Tried the evga precision again. Went back to afterburner quickly after. Cpu does look like it is getting beat up some in some benchmarks. I still only have the dummy overclock enabled right now so its only sitting at about 3.6ghz. Playing with tomb raider and some 3d mark benchmarks it looking like it does okay. Tomb raider was beating up the cpu pretty good. Going to do some comparing on 3d marks website to see if people are getting that much more performance out of their cards with the xeon...if so I might just buy one and throw it in, they are pretty cheap...x299 is a strong possibility for later this year. I just wanted to play anthem now with my cousin. This will do swimming for now.

Took you peoples advice. Bought a x5660 this thing is kicking ass, overclocks a heck of alot better then my 960 too. Stable a 4.4ghz! I love it! this with my 2070 its like a brand new pc.....think a new computer might be farther away then i thought.

I dont see any real reason to replace my AX1200 PSU i think this thing will continue kicking butt! Also yes. X1, was not a fan lol. Just think afterburner is so much easier to use. lol
