Hei, I'm trying to configure 32GB Intel Optane memory on m.2 socket 3 to accelerate my second SATA HDD drive but so far without success. My first bootable drive is NVMe m2 Evo 970.

I read that I need the Intel RST driver 16.xx to get support for secondary drive. I've installed the latest 16.8.xx, I have the latest BIOS 1.17 and the Intel Optane app says that there is "no compatible disk in Intel Optane Memory".

In BIOS menu RST drivers are still 15.7 and I don't know if the problem is there and they are possible to be updated ?

I appreciate any help to solve this!

Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Forum.
Is the Drive Clean or used?
Is it installed in the M.2 Key-M 80mm Slot?
    Key-M 80mm Supports Intel Optane
    Not Supported in the M.2 Key-M 110mm slot PCI-E/NVMe

Are they now allowing the original Optane drive to be used as an enhancer to non OS drives?
Used to only be for whatever Sata drive was the Boot / OS drive

Yep, that has changed and can now also be used with SSD Drives and not only SATA Based Drives.

    Secondary/Data drive acceleration:
    • With the latest Intel Optane memory and Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) applications (Version 16.x or later), the Secondary/Data drive can be accelerated with Intel Optane memory modules. See Software and Platform Support for Intel® Optane™ Memory for complete details on which Processor/Chipsets support this capability
    • An update to the System BIOS may be required to upgrade the Intel® RST Pre-OS UEFI Driver version to 16.x or later. Consult your motherboard vendor for the proper system BIOS version for this support.
    • All additional system requirements and BIOS settings are the same as noted in the guide above.
    • Find more information on Secondary/Data SATA Drive Acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory.

    Important notes

    • Statistics will only be displayed when accelerating a System drive.
    • Systems with two bootable drives—that is, one drive with one OS and another drive with a second OS—aren't a supported configuration, and results can't be guaranteed.
All additional system requirements and BIOS settings are the same as noted in the Installation Guide.
With this additional capability, the applications now provide an option to select which drive to accelerate. You can see in the images below how this option will be provided in the applications with System in the title of the system drive.

The Optane drive is new, the secondary SATA drive is old and currently in use? Should i format the SATA drive and wipe eveyrthing from it ? Optane is mounted on Key-M 80mm.

I will try with a new SATA HDD witch has no data on it to see if the hard drive is the problem.

    Thanks for the hints!
