Intel SGX is another bs DRM that allows playback of Ultra HD 4K Blu Ray discs on PC. It is the ONLY DRM that provides a handshake between Cyberlink PowerDVD software and your PC hardware. But here's the real kicker... only Intel CPU's with an iGPU (integrated graphics) support SGX. And the dumbest part is, if you have a powerful GPU such as a GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080Ti and you have an Intel CPU with an iGPU, you have to take your HDMI cable out of the Nvidia GPU and put it into the Intel integrated iGPU socket and run your 4K Blu Ray movies through the integrated graphics chip instead of your main graphics card. And you can't use Displayport for SGX. It has to be over HDMI 2.0 or higher.
Nvidia does not support SGX software and neither does AMD. Intel are literally the only ones who support it. This lousy DRM was requested by the big name movie companies and it has literally murdered 4K Blu Ray playback on PC as a result. I mean who the heck uses integrated graphics these days other than on low powered office laptops?
What really boils my fluids though is that the SGX DRM was created to prevent piracy of 4K Blu Ray discs and pirates have already cracked them. So it was a huge waste of time. And now people who legitimately buy 4K Blu Ray discs can only play them back on PC if they're using an integrated Intel iGPU.
tl;dr
To play 4K Blu Ray discs on PC you will need:-
1) An Intel CPU with an iGPU (integrated graphics) 6th gen or above.
2) A 4K Blu Ray optical drive
3) A HDMI 2.0 (or above) cable
4) Playback software that supports SGX (such as Cyberlink PowerDVD)
5) 4K Blu Ray movie discs
6) A 4K monitor that supports HDMI 2.0 (or above)
