Nvidia has blamed the cryptocurrency crash of 2018 for its oversupply of the GTX 10 series, but all the extra graphics cards are almost gone. In a Q&A session with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, an update was provided on the inventory problem. When asked, "Can you tell us more about your problem with excess inventory and how that will be resolved?" Huang reiterated that the overstock problem is a direct result of cryptocurrency, and then went on to note that all of the high end GTX 10 series is sold out. The GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 1080, GTX 1070 Ti, and GTX 1070 are all gone. It will only be "several more weeks" before the GTX 1060 begins to disappear from Nvidia's own stockpile. Actually that is good news for NVIDIA to have moved all of that oversupply out to customers who really need them.

In other words because people are apparently refusing to adopt a expensive new GPU series that hasn't been able to shine properly Nvidia is going to say and do anything to force people to adopt anyways. This goes hand in hand with the other article about them not adding Variable Refresh Rate support to Maxwell and lower GPUs. Not at all surprising they'd go these routes.

I find it hard to believe the massive overstocks from only a month ago are gone....

but if true, the only reason I could think of would be that more people opted buying  the 10x series instead of the massively overpriced 20x  cards at the moment. ?

It is good for Nvidia that the GTX 10 series GPUs overstock are gone, but bad for consumers due to the fact they are going to be forced to get the questionable life spam and more expensive RTX GPUs.
In reality Nvidia is shooting themselves in the foot on this one. Nvidia market share has dropped a couple of points since the RTX cards launch, does he really think that by making this move is going to benefit the company in any way?  IMO, Nvidia market share is going down even further.
Now consumers are going to find AMD GPUs more appealing due to pricing.
At this point, I do not trust anything that guy says anymore...that is why i am leading towards the underdog AMD.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Indeed and when the 10 series sells out i think we may have a AMD 1080p renaissance, as Polaris is still around.
Heck this may be good for the vega cards as Nvidia really isnt going to make people want their overpriced crap.

I imagine the original 1080ti FE would still sell rather well for the original MSRP ($699) if in stock...

I used to mine. Now I compute.

I wish Asus would send me a 2nd 1080ti Poseidon to help move old stock.
