Microsoft will officially stop releasing any updates for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020. Once those releases stop, Windows 7 will have officially been abandoned by its creator, and its users will either have to use the neglected operating system or finally upgrade to Windows 10.

So you've got a year to upgrade or continue to use Windows 7 after that time and leave yourself vulnerable to security issues.

Windows 7 and the X58 platform. Both were greatness in their time. ..actually W7 is still good, but sadly its days are numbered...

I've been putting off the upgrade for a very long time now wishing for an alternative to winblows 10. I knew I'd have to upgrade some day, but every other time I've had to upgrade there was finally a worthy successor to upgrade to. It's really sad to see where microsoft has gone, and continues to go.

I used every version of windows out there, but i have been using windows 10 from the earliest beta versions

now windows is more or less a perpetual operating system as long as you keep it updated

Yup. Been running Windows since W3.1 I think.. before that I was playing around on a Commodore Amiga 500. :)

I fought Windows 10 (and W8 and W8.1) and was vehemently against it for a long time, but upgrading systems basically forced me into it due to a number of driver conflicts with Windows 7 (and I would not be surprised if those conflicts were intentional). Having said that, and now having used Windows 10 for long enough to grudgingly accept the inevitable, it's not that bad now that I can set it up looking fairly close to Windows 7 as far as the GUI goes. There's a lot of settings to tweak to get the system running more or less how I want it and not how Microsoft wants it, and super annoying when they do a major update and you find some of those settings just happen to quietly revert back to MS defaults (sneaky reptiles that they are), but yeah.. 1 more year and W7 is going to become a risk to continue using. I'm betting they eventually start charging a subscription fee for their 'Windows as a service', that's what this is all leading to imho.
