What's wrong with it? Artifacts? If yes, you could try baking it in the oven to fix it. 
 
Note: Bake the gpu with the die facing upwards instead of down.

It died completely. My office smelled like the magic computer smoke so i'm assuming it's a blown cap and not a solder problem needing reflow.  

If you could smell it, probably one of the VRM power stage MOSFETs went up in smoke. It has been happening at quite a high rate over the last half year.

Repair? Some have had success desoldering the blown up VRM component and either replacing it or using it with one less power stage. Others have not.

You can usually find replacements on DigiKey. But, if the PCB was damaged or if the high side MOSFET shorted and the GPU core received a spike of 12 volts, all bets are off. Again, please refer to video above about lessons learned.
