Hello,
Last month I bought an EVGA z370 Micro, Core i5 9600k and an Antec Earthwatts gold pro 550w and as soon as I built everything on my case I powered it on and I started to hear an annoying high pitching sound.
So far I have tried with no success:
  • Different power outlets, cables.
  • Powering the motherboard with just de 24pin (no cpu, ram, 8pin).
  • Disabling power options on the Bios (C1E, EIST).
On a side note if I plug in my headphones (HyperX Cloud Core) on the front audio jack I hear the same high pitch sound but not on the rear audio jack.
I have also tried the psu with two different motherboards (Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H with a Core i5 2500 and MSI 970a-g43 with an AMD Fx-6300) and the psu did not make a single sound just the usual fan noise.
This makes be believe is something with the motherboard causing the high pitch sound on the psu, what should I do?

My complete build is:
CPU: Intel Core i5 9600k
Motherboard: EVGA Z370 Micro (Bios version 1.08)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz
Video: EVGA Nvidia 1060 6gb
Case: NZXT h400i
Cooler: CoolerMaster TX3
HDD: Samsung 1Tb
SSD: Sandisk Ultra II 120gb, WD Green 240gb
PSU: Antec Earthwatts Gold 550W

Cheers,

Try a different psu with the board to see if the noise improves.

    Hello Sajin,
Just tried with another psu (Antecb bp550 plus) and the noise is practically unheard but I also tried the psu with the noise with an Asrock b450 with a Ryzen 2600 and it does not emit a single sound.
Should I RMA the psu instead of the motherboard? Amazon offered to do a full refund for either the psu, the motherboard or both or even send me another psu as the motherboard is out of stock.

I'd just get a refund on the psu, and use the other one.

Is it common to have this kind of issue? I find it odd the psu does absolutely no sound on the other 3 motherboards.
Do you have any recommendations on what psu should I buy instead?

No, but it does happen. I'd suggest a seasonic unit.

My Z370 Micro had the worst coil whine I have ever heard in my life. I wasn't sure if it was the mobo or my GPU or what but since I switched to the Z390 dark the coil whine is all gone.

If the mic on your smartphone can detect high pitch -- there must be a  dB app that may help you find the location.

I can't hear over 17.5 kHz and used an audio down converter at work.

Seasonic is good but I like Corsair. Seasonic designs and builds many PSUs for different manufacturers.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA
