I had this monitor for several years now since err probably 2014
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16...

However, I have been using Dual link for some idiot reasons when I realize I was supposed to use single link DVD-I since my refresh rate is locked at 60hz and nothing higher. Is it true we're supposed to use Single Link DVI-D since it supports only 60hz and less? I was told dual links are for higher resolutions for 120hz and 1440hz. I didn't realize that and I FEEL like an IDIOT I had Dual link for years when I had no 120hz monitors. Did I mess things up or something? That might explain why my old 970 SSC blew up a long time ago I dunno. I STILL blame the tech guy for touching my card in the shop. I STOOD there and saw that but that's another story. Can anyone shed some light on Dual Link DVI-D and Single Link DVI-D?

I was told it is okay to use either. Would like someone to explain more about this so I can understand this more. I am considering studying every component on my PC as homework project so I can make no mistakes in the far future. It's educational!

The monitor will use what it needs even if the cable is capable of more and cause on damage to equipment.

Most DVI connector types—the exception is DVI-A—have pins that pass digital video signals. These come in two varieties: single link and dual link. Single link DVI employs a single 165 MHz transmitter that supports resolutions up to 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz. Dual link DVI adds six pins, at the center of the connector, for a second transmitter increasing the bandwidth and supporting resolutions up to 2560 × 1600 at 60 Hz.[3][4] A connector with these additional pins is sometimes referred to as DVI-DL (dual link).

Using dvi-d with a 60 hz monitor isn't going to blow up your video card.

Okay it doesn't hurt the card but does it matter which I use or do I gain more performance from using dual links instead of single link ? Since Dual Link support higher resolutions so would it be a difference in performance if I switch back to dual link? I am only running 1920x1080p 4ms monitor though.

Doesn't matter which one you use when running a 60 hz monitor.
