Hello all,

New around here. As the subject says, it seems I got a bad 450BT, and would like to know If there is a way to identify when the PSU is in protection mode. One of my few EVGA PSU stopped working one day, the one in my NAS, and I ordered the one now currently with problems, but to my surprise, a couple days later I noticed the NAS was on and online! I was having 132volts and the NAS was connected directly to the wall without going through its voltage regulator. It seems for that one the OVP entered that time. My only explanation, because it came back to life and has been perfectly fine since then.

I kept the 450BT as a spare and used it yesterday for a gaming PC I am building for my nephew. IT booted up at the first attempt and the system ley me install windows and several apps and games, but all of the sudden the new computer turned off. Some troubleshooting later I tried the 750w supernova and I am now writing this from the new system. I even ran some benchmarks and everything is perfectly fine. The problem was the PSU.

The system is a stock ryzen 5 2600 with a stock RX580. With the GPU going to 100% in Shadow of the Tomb Raider the system is only using 368watts, with 300watts read from the wall... as recommended for this build, the 450watts PSU is more than adequate.

Before I RMA I would like to know if this one now is just in a protection state.

Thanks.

You Might be a little Light on the PSU Your GPU
Typical Board Power (Desktop) 185 W PSU Recommendation 500 W

Make Sure you Do Not Mix the Power Supply Cables between Different Makes and in some cases between Different Models of Power Supplies.

If you have to spend close to 50% of the product value in shipping to RMA it, is it really worth it?

If it's possible to return the defective unit for a refund, i would highly recommend doing that over spending more money to RMA a low end power supply. You can get a EVGA 550W G2 (80 Plus Gold) unit for $59.99 after rebate right now. If you can wait a few weeks, you can get 650w or 750w version for the same price.
