Hello, I am setting up a new system, basic specs below:
CPU: i7-7820x
PSU: EVGA 850 G3
MOTHERBOARD: ASRock taichi xe x299
Graphics card: GTX 1070

The motherboard has a 24 pin atx power port and two 8 pin atx CPU ports. The G3 has the same. My confusion comes from the cabling on the G3. The cables labeled CPU have the 8 pin atx slot for the motherboard in two 2x2s and the full 4x4 for the PSU side. However the two 2x2s don't seem to have the same keying as the motherboard. The motherboard slot is keyed with one row like square, hex, hex, square and the other hex, square, square, hex. When I place the 2x2s side by side ( as they would be put in the motherboard) they don't seem to match that layout. However the full 4x4 side does match that. Hopefully this makes sense. Am I doing something wrong setting this up?

Thanks!

The CPU 8-pin (4+4) connectors from the PSU should go together and fit in the mobo ATX 12V power socket for the CPU..Sometimes one has to go in first, slightly ahead of the other one, look for little tabs on top of the connectors and that the left and right parts of them are oriented correctly.

Do not force any connectors, they should fit easily!

Only one of the CPU 8-pin (4+4) connectors need to be connected unless for extreme overclocking stability, but since your PSU has the two CPU 8-pin (4+4) connectors, I'd just go ahead and plug them in too.

See page 26 of your mobo manual for more info.

Ok that is what I thought. I was mainly just confused why the shapes of the pins did not match the shapes on the motherboard. I would have expected a square pin from the PSU to match up with a square pin on the mobo atx connector and so forth.
