From what I gather the problem seems to be EVGA cheaping out on the fans they are using. Not quite the same problem but the fan on my 1000w G2 unit has started making a rasping sound most likely where the barings in it have gone and this is after only about 18 months of use. I've got unbranded PSUs still going strong after 5+ years with zero issues (fan included), and a Corsair 850w HX unit still humming away perfectly with no problems either. Irony is I got the G2 unit specifically for long term durability as the system the unit is in I specifically designed for long term durability with zero downtime or issues. I've already submitted a ticket thing to EVGA Europe (I'm in the UK) so as EVGA have utterly failed quite spectacularly they better be able to just send me a replacement fan so I can replace it myself (few minutes work compared to weeks waiting for EVGA to fix it) or be able to do an advanced RMA so I can just swap in the new unit. The 1000w G2 wasn't cheap, so I'm expecting some flexibility.

Update to my above post; EVGA have been completely useless. Shipping in the UK to have the fan replaced in the unit is extremely unreasonable (£30+ if I have to send it somewhere within the UK, and £60-94 if I have to send the unit somewhere in the EU) and despite me telling EVGA this they still refuse to just send me a replacement fan for me to fit. The "collateral" MSRP price EVGA want for an advanced RAM is also bloody scandalous. I have already outed EVGA in an IT tech group with 10,000+ members on facebook as well as contacted the governing body in the UK for consumer rights (trading standards). Start doing the right thing EVGA, or my next step is outing you in even larger IT groups on Reddit and Twitter along with proceeding through trading standards. You really want all the bad publicity and grief I can bring your away over just sending me a replacement fan?

EVGA won't. First and last time I use any of their stuff, plenty of other manufacturers out there that are FAR more willing to be helpful than EVGA in such situations as mine I've dealt with.

Starting to get nervous reading all the fan noise posts for the G3 850 .....
 
Ive yet to install/use my G3 850 but man I hope I do not have a similar experience with noise as I like my units "silent" . Ive always taken great pains to get my gaming rigs quite , so I'll cross my fingers .  Iam hoping the units as nice and quiet as my older Seasonic 760 Plat . *fingers double crossed

I too am having this same issue, I had the 750 G3 with no problems then i bought this 850 and its randomly loud as heck. Regretting this purchase.
