I seem to keep acquiring USB devices and have now filled nearly all of the ones on the I/O panel on my motherboard.  I was thinking of offloading my USB headset (Steelseries Pro with GameDAC unit) and/or my newly acquired Logitech Webcam to the USB ports on the monitor and connect that up (assuming it's a powered hub built in).  I'm wondering though if it's advisable or even works to plug sound and video devices like that into a hub?  The monitor has two USB ports to plug things into.  My options for what to move to it are the following.

Steelseries GameDAC with Steelseries Pro RGB headphones
Logitech 922 cam
Saitek X52 joystick  with lit display and some lit buttons
external hard drive for backups only occasionally turned on
external DAC for high quality audio listening with regular headphones
RGB mouse
RGB keyboard

I guess I'm just worried about straining the power section/USB headers on my 4 year old Z97 motherboard, but I'm not sure what I can move without causing performance issues to those items.  I've read in the past some things don't play well with hubs even if they're powered.

Look into adding an USB 3.0 or even a newer 3.1 PCIe add in card. All of those devices look like they should be on an actual port. The camera might get cranky on a hub. The audio might get away with it but I have heard about people getting sound corruption from being plugged into an USB port on their monitor - grounding issue between devices.
If playing games you want the mouse and keyboard on the motherboard for consistent input performance

Most of the newer add in cards will have an supplemental power (molex or sata power) to help with voltage to your USB devices

Thanks, any input on if I'm potentially overloading the USB on the board adding in the various RGB stuff?  FWIW when I'm not using them (and even when I am many times) the RGB on the Steelseries Arctis is shut off so it's just powering the GameDAC.  My other DAC is usually shut off, but it's also externally powered.  The external HD is only on occasionally for backups.  I don't know how much power draw might be too much.  I know the keyboard draws the most.  Ducky specifically says if it's in a USB3 port (which it is) it can get brighter due to the increased ouptut on those.  I don't have an issue just leaving everything on the board if there's no real risk.  I still have 1 port on back and 4 front panel ports to use for the occasional syncing a camera etc.

The devices have to conform to whatever USB version they are designed for for voltages and amperage loads and the maker of the board would have to insure that they have adequate power for the amount of slots they put on the board. With you having 1 device per port and not a cable going to an unpowered hub you should be fine.

But as I said if you are worried I would look into an add in card with a spot to add power to it

Awesome sounds good.  I hadn't thought about it like that but it makes sense.
