Hi community

Was hoping someone could shed some light on why this is happening...

Completely randomly whether I'm gaming or just web browsing, my dual 4k 32-inch monitors will completely lose signal, my PC will still be running and I can still hear audio, so that tells me my PC hasn't crashed. The only thing I can do from there is hard reset my PC. I've switched out my display port cables to ones with high bandwidth and Vesa certified, but still happens. As I say it's completely random. It doesn't seem to be following a pattern. If it happens when I'm playing a game I can be playing the game for some time until it happens, so that say's to me it's not my displays. It also happens when I'm just web browsing. I use google chrome. I've turned off "Hardware Accelerator" and "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed", still happens. I use an EVGA 1080 ti and I'm thinking it must be an issue with that. I've had dual monitors for some time now and this has only just started happening. They're the exact same Samsung monitors, I've set them to not go into energy saver or eco mode, still happens. My GeForce drivers are all up to date, I'm completely stuck to be honest, other than returning the graphics card that I've for around 5 months now. I've tried unplugging the power cables and display port cables then reconnecting, doesn't make any difference.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Does this issue occur over hdmi too? Do the fans on your gpu spin up to max when the screens go black?

Haven't tried hdmi, but I will. The fans come on but the temps never go above 65c. I monitor the temps through EVGA Precision...

So just to confirm the fans on your gpu do not spin up to max rpm when the screens go black?

I haven't noticed tbh, what would be the relevance of that?

Well if it were happening it could mean the gpu isn't getting the proper power it needs.

Ah, so my system would only power off the graphics card if it wasn't getting enough power for all components? I just assumed the rig would full shutdown without enough power

I take it the monitor is not HDMI 2.0 capable? I have been running on HDMI for several months on my 1070 and then my 1080ti @ 4k 60hz.

I had this issue with my 1070g1 gaming for a while. Randomly fans would spin up to full screen goes black and sound keeps going. Only way to recover is to hard restart. People claimed up and down that it was a power supply issue however I could replicate the issue across multiple power supplies that never had any other issues. I did see a discussion where someone mentioned something about power protection on the earlier cards was more or less messed up and would trigger way too easily. Ill have to see if I can find that discussion again.

    Both my monitors are...
Samsung LU32J590UQUXEN 32-Inch 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 LED Monitor - 2xHDMI, DisplayportThey both have 2 x 2.0 HDMI ports, but my EVGA 1080 ti only has 1 HDMI port, and 3 display ports, so I use the display ports.

I can play Overwatch 8 hours straight, 4k res, full settings, 60 fps with no issues, then play Frostpunk and in 20-30 minutes screen goes black and PC needs a hard reset. Can't be a power issue, that. Just makes no sense.

If you reset your cpu to stock clocks does the issue go away?

Restoring the bios to optimized defaults will set the cpu back to stock clocks. Since the issue doesn't occur over hdmi that makes me think there is something going on with your display port outputs on your gpu.

The reason I'm now suspecting the PSU is as well as the GPU I also run 2 webcams, Logitech Brio and Logitech C920, a Corsair K70 LUX RGB keyboard and a receiver for a Logitech G900 mouse, it all mounts up...

Restart the computer from the desktop, and then start pressing the DEL key until you enter the bios. Once you're inside the bios press the F5 key to load optimized defaults, then press F10 to save and exit the bios.

There are several reasons for which your monitor randomly goes black. Firstly checkout all the cables are tightly connected to monitor. If everything is fine there, then checkout all your computer drivers are updated well or not. People won't update their computer drivers can cause lots of issues. There are some other possible are also. You can checkout them.

Have you reinstalled the video drivers? Flickering sometimes can be fixed by updating drivers I have seen
