Best to RMA. I wonder what the Bottom Side looks like?

Thanks for the quick response. I understand this would qualify as a good reason to RMA, but if this wont cause any problems for me I would prefer to just continue using the board. That is why I am trying to identify the chip and what it goes to; if it isnt really going to limit my uses for the system (or will not cause further hardware failures) I am not too concerned. For example, if it is part of an audio input that I dont use. EDIT: I did not lift the board out of the PC but I did look underneath, as far as I could see the solder joints were intact and showed no signs of failure.

At least Open a Service Ticket This way it is on record before your Warranty runs out and is on Record with EVGA.

I would not do that. Something caused that to fail and that is a lot of current. Also, I could not help but laugh at the designation screened on the board for that component. FU2

That component is a surface mount fuse. Something shorted out.

Yes indeed, Polytronics 2.6 amp resettable... well used to be before the magic smoke escaped.

Not a MOSFET. It's a fuse. Probably for the USB Type-C port. Can you verify that the USB Type-C port no longer charges your phone or whatever you might have around to test? The data functionality of the Type-C port would likely still work, it's the charging functionality which would no longer work assuming that fuse is for that port. Perhaps the Type-C port IO Shield tab was improperly aligned and sticking into the top of the Type-C port. If everything you use the motherboard for is working properly, I don't think that I would RMA it. I have a feeling that EVGA would reject the RMA anyway and say that the damage was caused by improper use. I would guess that your motherboard warranty is now considered void.

After some inspection I found a small black mark on the IO panel tab you have highlighted. It must have contacted an unshielded area of the Type-C port somewhere. At this point I think its safe to say this is what happened. In true EVGA fashion they have have offered to replace the board , but they do not have any X99 boards available. Debating whether I really want to drop cash on a new cpu rather than just continue using this board. I never use the Type-C port. I suppose I will continue using it over the holiday and see if any issues arise. Thanks to all for your input.
