Microsoft may unveil Windows 10-Office 365 subscriptions for consumers that resemble the Microsoft 365 plans now pitched at enterprises. Hints of a product tagged "Microsoft 365 Consumer" surfaced in a pair of help-wanted advertisements on the Redmond, Wash. company's job board. One ad, which sought a senior product manager, was posted Oct. 18; the other, for a product manager, appeared Dec. 12. Both positions are marketing spots. I see no problem with this because so many people use Office 365 with no problems.

rjohnson11 Your thread title is misleading and left me thinking Windows 10 OS was going subscription based and was about grab my pitchfork.

A true Microsoft consumer license (not OEM) is pretty expensive. A subscription based solution might well attract more consumers.

You don't have to sub for Office products if you don't want to and you don't have to sub for Windows (yet). It's a consumer choice.

The heck it won't.  People don't want bills pilling up with more unnecessary subscriptions.  If worse comes to worse, I'll go back and stay on Win 7 and hope it doesn't seize with legacy hardware.

    Where?!  Still there? lol

I think you will still have to pay subscription no matter what.  Don't know what the point is of charging people to buy Windows to than ask for monthly sub payments after for 'updates'.

What really irks me is the fact that the $200 Full Version (PRO) which I've thought about purchasing doesn't allow you to put it on more than 1 machine or sorry, DEVICE!, that beautiful gotcha name they've been using so yeah, only 1 MB for $200 or for around $100-$130, OEM version...Same darn thing from my understanding.  I don't get them anymore.  I really don't freakin get it...

Not sure where you got that from??  I bought Win10 Pro retail (full) version and have had it installed on my X79, X99, and now my X299 board.  No issue's at all with it being activated.  As soon as I have an internet connection established with a new build, it activates automatically.

Really?  I had no idea but I thought the new wording of 1 per device meant per motherboard unique ID or at least I thought.

Here's what I was referring to.

That pic of the requirements/terms looks more like an OEM license even though I see where it says "this is a full version".  I've not had any trouble using or activating the retail version I bought on three different platforms now.  Not all at the same time of course.

Here's the section in the licensing terms from MS's website that talks about what you can do with a retail (stand alone) version of Windows.

    4.      Transfer. The provisions of this section do not apply if you acquired the software in Germany or in any of the countries listed on this site (aka.ms/transfer), in which case any transfer of the software to a third party, and the right to use it, must comply with applicable law.
    a.      Software preinstalled on device. If you acquired the software preinstalled on a device (and also if you upgraded from software preinstalled on a device), you may transfer the license to use the software directly to another user, only with the licensed device. The transfer must include the software and, if provided with the device, an authentic Windows label including the product key. Before any permitted transfer, the other party must agree that this agreement applies to the transfer and use of the software.
    b.      Stand-alone software. If you acquired the software as stand-alone software (and also if you upgraded from software you acquired as stand-alone software), you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software to a device owned by someone else if (i) you are the first licensed user of the software and (ii) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Every time you transfer the software to a new device, you must remove the software from the prior device. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between devices.

I am aware that Microsoft is looking at rebundling Office 365 for families with a 6 pack of users for a low monthly price. Numbers I have heard are for as little as $8.99 which most families can afford.

Sure there are lots of folk that are poor and cannot afford that which is why there are open source alternatives.

Lots of obsolete machines ended up with Linux instead of spending $120 on a Windows 10 license.

I didn't include the price in the screenshot which was $199 which makes it the full version.

It's mixed messaging on their part. If it truly works great but I don't understand why they would word it as an OEM.

For office I don't think is a bad idea made subscription based for applications like MS Office.
I never used MS Office in home because for word or xls processing I use other free alternatives as LibreOffice.

If you like MS Office over it, buy the subscription. Is not a new idea at all, Adobe products are subscription based as well.
For me, I will use the free alternatives as LibreOffice.

Subscription services are right out of the cellular and cable tv playbook. Next thing you know you'll start getting charged for "overages" on your subscription plan. Microsoft needs to go away with that trash idea. It's bad enough that they screw with everything randomly every 6 months in order to justify forcing a new product on you. That is just step 1 of justifying OS as a service so they can start pushing SaaS revenue.
