Hi,

I have the X58 Classified E760-A1 rev 1.0 and would like to perform the QPI Mod, I am having trouble locating any guides around on what i need to desolder/re-solder etc. there are plenty about for the E-758, but that has a different layout.

I know it's a bit of an old board, but i feel like the step to 32nm and 6 core would stretch it's life an extra 12-18 months.

If anyone knows i would appreciate any information on this.

Pictures attached of what i suspect might be the one to solder a resistor onto, but i don't know where to remove it from...

I would also like to know if simply jumpering these two pins would be sufficient?

The problem with that mod, as I recall, is that it won't turbo clock on high load for single threaded apps.  Which makes the straight i7-990x a better performing option, because it does do that without any soldering.

I've looked hard at what you're doing, and the benefits just aren't there, besides skating on a cheaper price.  I basically gimps this model board.  Other boards don't have that issue, but ours does.

I was intending to overclock the think to 4.5-4.8ghz and just run it at that speed always. Regardless of that i got a nice stepping x5677 -> 3021B060. Hopefully it will clock well once the mod is done...

That's not a bad price for that processor.  Provided, of course, there's nothing wrong with it.  That would be a nice upgrade from the 920.  I still run an X58 system with a 950 clocked to 4GHz (Rig #1 in my sig).  Still a good gaming rig.

For the Westmere mod you must bridge the two solder pads you circled as well as these ones at the top of the board.

I did this for my E762 and my Westmere CPU's work great, turbo boost is fully functional as well with C-States set to "Auto" in the bios. My X5650 will turbo to 23X multi under single threaded loads just fine as well, though I normally turn this off since it just causes instability when oc'ing.

for those with a e760 you need this point modded also, the other point is located to the right of the NB chip as all the other are. i missed this point and while it booted i was getting strange readings

not sure what happened to the pics i uploaded but lets try again,

just short the pads with some solder, not much is needed.

    top location, above cpu

lower location, to the right of the x58 chipset, heatsink removal is a must. this says e758 but the e760 is the same

I ended up just soldering both points because there was another guide that said to do that for E760. Do I need to move the resistor on E760 V1?

I contacted EVGA support for any guidance on what is correct method for E760 and they were not helpful at all.

Awesome!  Thanks for your help. Even though I have a 8700K, 1080 Ti setup custom loop etc I still love my X58 platform it's so fun to tweak and overclock on.

I'm really disappointed in EVGA support though they pretty much just told me to go on the forum's to find help lol. Thanks a lot!

    Thanks again for your help!

mine is most a backup rig that i do some video work on now, but still runs strong. As for support, i think this board came out when most of them were still in HS lol, its pushing 10yrs now, so the fact they will even talk about it anymore is crazy.

I am new to the board after stumbling on this gem. I was about to upgrade to a ryzen 2600x but am on an extreme budget and really thought it would be awesome to upgrade from my 920 (@ 4ghz) to the x5650 (@ 4+ghz). This is for the sake of gaming. I can get the x5650 for $20 on ebay but have a big question concerning exactly what to do to mod my e760 rev 1.0. I see that you folks are pointing to two sets of solder points that need to be bridged. I am needing clarification as to whether the lower two points just need to be soldered together, or do i use resistors at any point? I can upload a picture of my mb and if you would be willing to simply circle the points that need to be soldered to keep it simple or can you just upload pictures of what you did to both sets on your boards? The diagram image that was uploaded is a little confusing. Any jumpers or resistors used in this mid or just simply bridging the two sets of points?

Thank you very much. I appreciate your time and help.

All you need to do is short these two points with solder. That is all. No resistors, just solder.

So most of these mods that require moving one resister to the next, all you really have to do is short the 2nd one?  You can leave the first in there? Or does it have to be opened?

The diagram image that was uploaded is a little confusing. Any jumpers or resistors used in this mid or just simply bridging the two sets of points?

Thank you very much. I appreciate your time and help.

All you need to do is short these two points with solder. That is all. No resistors, just solder.

So most of these mods that require moving one resister to the next, all you really have to do is short the 2nd one?  You can leave the first in there? Or does it have to be opened?

I might finally get to doing this on my x58 sli micro. https://forums.evga.com/x58-sli-micro-E756-westmere-mod-m2381933.aspx

For YOUR board, I would follow the directions for your board, not for the  760. Your board is

Just so you know, these are not actually resistors. They are actually minature shorting bars with no resistance.  So you could just desolder R460 and just use solder to bridge R461. Depends upon your dexterity.

Thanks for reposting the mod pictures! I was looking around a while and most links were broken. I have the E759 (classified) board, rev 1.0.

I just put in a W3690 and I’m receiving bios code FF without any beeps which led me here. I presume I need do the westmere mod for this board. I have a few questions regarding the mod if anyone happens to have insight:

    1) Do I need to remove R538, or can I get away with just shorting R539? I’m tempted to try conductive paint instead of soldering if I indeed don’t need to remove R538.
    2) Do I need to short pads (hopefully similar to pictures) both above the cpu and beside the north bridge for the E759 board?
    3) Do you happen to know what these two mods are actually doing? I’ve found information conflating ‘westmere mod’ and ‘qpi mod’.

I was hoping the W3690 (with a single QPI link - effectively a core I7 990x with some extra features) might not need both mods.

    Thanks again for any insights!

    Edit:
This post on overclock.net appears clarify a few of my questions.  In this post, DR4G00N does seems to indicate that R538 does not need to be removed.  Does anyone here have knowledge of this by chance?
EVGA forums keeps deleting links: overclock.net/forum/8-intel-general/1489955-official-x58-xeon-club-446.html#post23801395

Jaser I am new to the board after stumbling on this gem. Re: X58 Classified E760-A1 rev 1.0 Westmere-EP QPI Mod guide request 2018/12/15 18:01:20 (permalink)
Hey all, Ive posted in steam discussions and toms hardware with no reply so I came here for  some help
i messed up my Evga X58 sli 3 Classified (141-BL-E760) ( Rev 1.1) by overvolting the Ram to 1.65v the board had an FF post then went to a blank ( no number) post upon trying to fix it. So i inturn go another board Evga X58 sli 3 Classified (141-BL-E759) ( Rev 1.0) i had put a Xeon x5675 in the 760 and it run great until i messed with the Ram.
So i put a new  Xeon into the 759 got a FF post, i know the board works I put a i7 920 in first. Come to find out only later versions( Revs) of this board supports Xeons. I managed to get the 760 to a 62 post code which i belive means i need to do a bios flash. And the 759 i read needs to have a peice on the motherboard sodered ( i dont want to do this). here is link to a evga form for the bios patch

Im just not sure if i should just flash the 759 with this or the 760 or neither.
Also should i try to flash the 760 with a normal bios.
not really sure what i should do.
    any help would be great!

I was intending to overclock the think to 4.5-4.8ghz and just run it at that speed always. Regardless of that i got a nice stepping x5677 -> 3021B060. Hopefully it will clock well once the mod is done...

What was the end result? OC speed?

I did this spot of solder, and even so the motherboard doesn't recognize my x5690 when it turns on, and it only appears FF
