Anybody on W10 1903 notice PX1 CPU usage has gone way way down?? I'm happy but how does W10 1903 fix such an issue?

Whats your cpu usage for px1 on 1903 build? I will format 1809 and install 1903 right now if cpu usage is fixed.

1-1.6% and as low as 0.4%. I'm keeping an eye on it but this is significant.

Thanks for fast reply i will download 1903 and try it :D

OK let me know your result. IMO It's not perfect, the power usage is still a bit high for such a small program but it's a massive improvement. I just have no idea how W10 1903 can make a change like this to PX1.

I can confirm usage drops massively in 1903, down to 0.5-0.8% and bounces up to 2.2% or so at times. It's still not as low as Afterburner and RTSS (that can be at 0% a large amount of the time, and never goes higher than 1.6%. I can monitor a lot more things with AB and RTSS, but the iCX sensors are unfortunately not among them :P), but it is a massive improvement from 5%. But I like to see what kinda temps my mem and power are getting, so overall I'm happy with the improvement.

Edit: Does anyone know of a way to mod/add in more monitoring options in PX1? Like at the very least CPU USAGE instead of just temp?

I can confirm this isn't working for everyone.  I just got 1903.  I'm seeing 1.2 up to 4.4%.  Power usage is moderate to high as well which hasn't changed.

Aw, sorry man, that's a bummer. I love the interface and look of Precision so much more than Afterburner, but AB never seemed to have all these issues, at least not for me. It'd be sweet if PX1 could be used along with RTSS for the OSD, so I could see more of the things I'd like to monitor. But yeah, it's either use PX1 w/ slightly higher CPU usage and less things to monitor, or use AB which is overall better but less intuitive and sleek looking, and I can't monitor the iCX sensors (which is the major reason I use PX1 :P). I don't know, imo, if this kind of thing was easy to fix for every system, it would probably have been done already. I'm sure they'll get it eventually.

I'll keep hanging in there.  I wish PX1 had RTSS as well.

Wish I could say a few % of the CPU didn't matter, either, but at this point, that is no longer the case. There's definitely some games that'll max out even an 8700K, AC: Odyssey for example. With all the Specter and Meltdown fixes, now the Zombieload fixes, I can see brief spikes up into the high 90%'s on an 8700K, and even (though rarely) spikes to 100%. It is, luckily, a very brief spike, but still :P Seems that every bit of CPU power is precious these days (in some situations, including those rare gaming ones), especially with an Intel processor. Hope I'll be able to get me a Zen 2 CPU, but I'm waiting for benchmarks/reviews.

I'm using Precision X1 0.4.4.0 and it's still using about 5% of my CPU. My CPU runs at max clock all the time and it's still a big chunk of usage — more than any other program in my background. I've got HWM, OSD whatever turned off and LEDSync not installed. Setting a constant fan speed doesn't help either.

Thanks. But I turned off "Fan Curve Control" and it's still using 5%.

If you are not using a Fan Profile then you can set the OC and Fans Apply then Save and save to a Profile.
Once this done all you need to do is start PX1 load the Profile being your last used and then Exit PX1.
This is what I do as there is no reason to keep it open.

Yeah, that's a viable workaround for some people, but the whole reason I'm using PX1 in the first place is because no other software can control the FTW3's fan curve. If I only needed overclocking, then I would have just used Afterburner. There is no reason for PX1 to use so much CPU, controlling fans or not. Something has to be wrong with it. If I wrote such inefficient code in my CS class my professor would have failed me.

If you are running a "Fan Profile" then yes you need to keep PX1 running in the Background.
You could also set the Fans to 40% or even 60% and let them run this way and then exit PX1

Yeah, so the problem is, sacrificing 5% of your CPU to have a non-dumb fan control scheme is a bit much. Thanks for your help though.

I fully agree with your sentiment. Afterburner with custom curves does not cause this nor should it ever. Mine goes to 2% max but usually hovers between 0.5-1.2%. Still too much for what it's supposed to be doing in my opinion.

Honestly, I'm going to slap an AIO on my FTW3 1080Ti and be done with using this excuse of a software :/

Where are you seeing the reading that PX1 is using 5% of CPU rescources?  I'm curious because I'm using a custom fan curve and when I look in Task Manager I see the CPU usage for PX1 sitting at 0% with the occasional jump to .1%.

Even for me excessive use of the CPU 4-5%
This creates stuttering (precision x1 disabled and stuttering gone)
Unfortunately to manage the curve of the 3 fans of the FTW I am forced to use precision x1 .
I have an RTX2080Ti FTW and I have disabled :
OSD
HARDWARE
LED Sync (which I have not installed).
CPU usage monitored with minimized precision x1

My system :
CPU 8700K @5Ghz
Z370 chipset
RAM 16GB @3600MHz stock
W10  Pro 1809
Triple monitor
use max power setting

Please EVGA work on this is very penalizing for those who use 280Ti FTW

Hello everyone,

I have/had the same issue. CPU load was bouncing madly. I would not have noticed it if there wasn't PWM fans on my rig. Well, it was the fan noice what caught my attention. Disabling OSD worked for me. I did not use that feature and therefore it was solution for me. Hopefully there will be fix to solve the issue with OSD. And sorry about bad English.

I still have this issue. Precision routinely eats 2-4% of my cpu when it should be idle. I have already disabled the hardware monitor.

Just remove PX1 from you pc its most garbage software ive used in my life. Crashing on windows startup, high cpu usage, sometimes show 2 fans insted of 3, NVlink get some wierd bugs when you use PX1 etc.... I reported all problems in Sep 2018 they still didnt fix anything and just add some useless features that nobody need. EVGA is silent and doesnt even replay on any forum posts.

I also disabled everything except the fan curve..

It got better with the last version (v. 1.0.7). Im running a high end amd cpu here and it uses 1-3% from time to time.. I'm killing the process and restarting it.. working fine for a while with less than 1%..
checking it now and then suddenly again over 2%.. really af

Maybe I ll try the old precisionX again. I dont like the afterburner.

hopefully it will be solved soon so it ll always run below 1% -.-

I'm having the same issue here. I don't remember this being the case in the last version, but consistently is using 6-12% of my CPU. Unfortunately I bought one of the stupid hybrid edition 1080ti's and so I have to have PX1 to be able to control or monitor the radiator fan at all. Should have just gotten an FE card and plumbed it into my cooling loop.

Well I'll be damned. Tech support actually fixed something for me on the first try. I'm not sure that's ever happened before. I'm stunned.

EVGA support's response to a ticket about this issue

Hi
We are sorry to hear about your software issue.
Please follow the directions in the link below to do a clean install of Precision X1.

Please let us know the results of your troubleshooting.

Regards,
EVGA

Follow the instructions to the letter. Including a complete shutdown, turn off power supply, wait 2-3 minutes for caps to discharge (unless your mobo has one of those fancy boot cycles) turn on power supply and cold boot.

Worked for me!

How Do I Troubleshoot Precision X1 Issues?
Last Update: 2019/05/31

If you are experiencing any issues with Precision X1 there are multiple steps that can be taken to help resolve the issue. Sometimes, other programs can conflict with Precision X1 so the first thing to check for is that any other overclocking or customization software is closed before launching Precision X1.

First and foremost, please ensure that you are running Precision X1 as an administrator. You can do this by right-clicking on the program icon and select "Run as Administrator." Due to security requirements with newer NVIDIA drivers, Precision X1 may have to be run as administrator at all times.
But if issues remain after closing any extraneous programs, we would recommend trying the following steps:

1) Uninstall Precision X1 from the system and then delete the application directories from:
"C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\EVGA_Co.,_Ltd"
"C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\PX18"

2) Ensure that the Visual C++ Runtime Redistributable is installed from the link here: <link>.

3) Uninstall all drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller, linked here: <link> and then reboot the system.

4) Install the latest NVIDIA drivers from the link here: <link> and then power off the system completely. It is recommended to unplug or shut off the power supply for about 2-3 minutes to ensure the graphics card has completely discharged.

5) Power on the system then reinstall the latest version of Precision X1 from the link here: <link>. Then launch the program as an administrator and check that any problems have been resolved.

If you continue to experience issues while using Precision X1, our Technical Support team is happy to assist you. You can contact us by calling: 1-888-881-3842 or by e-mailing us at: <link>.

Just to clarify it seems that the cold boot is what does the trick for me, and unfortunately I must redo it every time nvidia's graphics drivers update. But this has at least given me a viable workaround for the problem. Hopefully it helps everyone else as well.

hmm it got worse again with the latest versions. I used 1.1.7.0 for quiet a while. Id say average CPU load is 1.5% (12 core/24 threads) - A couple of month ago I tried 1.2.0.0 and immediately rolled back to 1.1.7.0. because it was running at 2% or higher all the time..
Now I tried using 1.2.3.0 and sometimes the cpu load peaks to 4%...

Running the latest drivers and already made a clean install like described above. (win10 20H2)

Any suggestions how to debug this behaviour? Or do I have to wait for devs to fix this? I mean this high cpu load issue is up for like almost 2 years or even longer. since I switched from precisionX to precisionX1 I experience this..

I can only keep complaining about this rubbish software..
running 1.2.8 and it is still using 1-4% cpu usage.. 8cores, 16 threads!
Now precisionx1 asked to upgrade to 1.3.0 .. and suddenly the fan profiles are gone!! OMFG

Glad to get rid of this sh*t soon!
