The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is looking to launch an investigation into the practice of introducing loot boxes in video games. In some European countries loot crates are considered to be gambling and are not allowed. It will be interesting to see what the investigation finds.

Imagine if this sort of thing extends to physical card games that have randomize card game packs. Very little difference between the randomization of loot box draws and real-life card game packs.

If this was for the purpose of putting a stop to it , I'd be happy.
-- but this will probably just amount to the FTC making money off it , by having to get companies to pay for a 'license' to use loot crates & put a small label warning on the box or advertisements.
I doubt they are seriously worried for the children.

It's a form of vice tax where you are a revenue source, not being saved from anything really. The government never really does anything with saving the public in mind. It instead monetizes potential income sources in a bid to seek agency revenue. Government regulation is deliberately punitive by design.

Good. It's clearly gambling. It is nothing beneficial to games either.
