Interesting. I need to check that again since I used the master bios on both cards originally but I repasted the cards. Maybe I flipped the switch accidentally. Thanks for help.

Thanks the switch worked now.

Another question if we are already on it. I tested my card with Unigine Heaven again and my Power Temp (PWR 4) went up to 95°C after running for 10minutes. How concerning is that? The fans ramp up quite a bit during testing.
I am wondering if my cards are any good since they perform so miserably. I mean FTW3 is the top of the line card and I can't overclock at all. I thought those cards were more capable of doing so and they get uncomfortably hot.
Should I do an RMA?

95c is right on the line of being in spec.

Could be better though. I guess I need another fan blowing down on it. I already have 3 fans installed in my beQuiet! Dark Base 900 Pro V2

So I finally opened up the cards. One looked like this. There is some black grease all over it and the thermal pads are very dirty. What would you do about it? How can I clean all the little crevices on it and what is the reason for this?

The other card looks good btw

Looks like thermal pad leakage mixing with dust. Thermal pad leakage isn't a problem. You could change the thermal pads.

Can you tell me what thickness they need? Are they all the same thickness? Also can I clean the rest of the card with alcohol to remove the grease?

I tried running Heaven benchmark again with Power Target at 127%. I noticed that Total Power never goes above 107%. It usually fluctuates between 93 to 103%.
Shouldn't it go up to 127%? Changing the voltage slider also doesn't change anything. And I still max out on overclocks above +30/+30. The clocks settel at 1911mhz after it reaches the max temp of about 82°C.
Also the Heaven Benchmark seems stuttery even with no overclock. Is that normal since the frames indicate it runs at minimum of 60fps.

Contact evga to get the correct thickness. Cleaning the card with alcohol is fine. You won't use the full 127% unless you're pushing the card to its limits while running unigine superposition on its 8k preset. Increasing the voltage slider just unlocks a few voltage steps above 1.063mv, so it allows you to use up to 1.093mv. To run 1.093mv all the time you'll need to use msi afterburner to force the card to run at that voltage. Yes, there are a few spots in heaven that stutter.

Thanks Sajin. Will do. And testing Superposition next. Even when I don't use SLI my cards won't overclock past +30/+30 and stabalizing at 1916mhz at 82°C. Also the system gets a little laggy and sluggish at a minimal overclock.
I still feel like I got two duds in regards to overclocking when I see all these threads with super high overclocks past 100mhz.

Re: 1080ti FTW3 x2 SLI Overclocking Problems 2019/09/03 07:27:32 (permalink)
In Unigine 8k optimized I reach 83°C with lowest clocks at 1848mhz, no overclock applied. Points in the end 4345. All the other Evga 1080ti's got scores around 4800-5000 points...
Power maximum was 117% (one time 122% when the benchmark stops) and MSI Afterburner constantly reported Power Limit at that point. So the OC bios is not working properly?

Edit: Did another test. All fans at full speed with +45/+35 overclock I get 4414 points. 74°C max, 1911mhz minimum clock speed. But is not worth it with all that noise :-)

I tried it again and now the limit went up to 123%. So I assume it is working.

But the overclock of +45/+30 crashed in Unreal Engine. So not stable after all.

So I noticed I can overclock the memory to +300Mhz after I checked out a video of someone overclocking his FTW 3 450mhz. So I just put in a very high number instead of my usual 25-50mhz. But as soon as I increase the clock +30mhz it crashes.
Also when I use raytracing in Unreal Engine the driver crashes if I accidently put the GI samples (40) too high with no overclock applied. Is that expected or a sign of a faulty card? I am really confused by the overclocking potential. Also the video I saw the guys card only got to like 60°C while I reach 84°C. Still seems very high even in SLI.

Sounds like bad silicon lottery for your oc potential.

It just feels a little weird that I lost on two cards equally.

One card is most likely stronger than the other. You'll need to test them individually to see which one is stronger. In sli the weaker card will hold back the stonger one.
