No one is hyped for this cpu? Sure it’s not 20+ cores or something insane, but it offers 8 cores, hardware fixes to the vulnerabilities, and lastly 44 pcie lanes that you don’t have to spend 1,000$ on. Half the price 589$! What do x299 owners think of this since some of you already have your build done. Is it worth it compared to a 7940X? I almost got for 1,000$? Besides 8core vs 14 core differences

I would have bought this over my 7820X had it been available back then. Especially for the added pcie lanes (28 vs 44). But at this point, I personally don't see a need to upgrade.

In 4K gaming cpu ain't that important anymore as you will end up in GPU bottleneck anyway.
As for 9800X this also raised by eyebrowns as it is actually cheaper than 9900K in the stores right now.
However HEDT is using mesh which performs much worse in gaming than consumer core i7/i9. I also checked 9900K vs 8700K and barely any difference at all in 1440p gaming so can't see any justification at all to swap 8700K to 9900K or 9800X for that matter.
9800X of course gives more lanes so one can use full 16 lanes on video card when also using M2 SSD in parallel but the mesh architecture lower perf won't be compensated enough by higher pci-e bandwidth on 2080Ti.

If I'm following you right, due to the mesh architecture you're saying a 9900k with 2 x GPUs @ 8x/8x would outperform a 9800X with 2 x GPUs @ 16x/16x, with the assumption that the 9900k is running at a higher clock speed than the 9800X? I've been desperately trying to get more information on the pros and cons of these two setups for my in progress build.

I guess that 9900K would outperform even with the clocks would be the same.
No matter how hard I try to justify myself to get HEDT platform then conclusion is that consumer grade 9900K is better for gaming in every aspect.
Only real benefit for HEDT is 44 lanes if you need it.

I've been looking into the refresh a little, and I am leaning towards holding onto my 7820X as well. It doesn't seem to be worth the extra money for me. I've already delid my CPU and it runs so well already. There is little reason for me to move to a new CPU aside from PCI lanes, but I don't think the ~$1,000 is worth it for my build.

With Intel having so many troubles CPU prices are a bit higher then they should be and that will continue for a while. If you want to save cash for that CPU wait a couple of months. But if you have to have it now...game on.

my maximum time is wait until blizzard release classic wow, so i'll do as you said and I'll wait.  until now i already bought the darkx299 +  memory ram 3200mhz + WC evga clc280 + 1 nvme WD1tb + mouse rival500, this is it..

9800X is 589. I already pre ordered. It’s practically the same as the 9900K just with more pcie lanes which I need at 1440P 165Hz. I lose 20% performance with not enough lanes. I just think it’s finally a great buy compared to buying a 10 core just for the lanes at double the price

8 core 16 threads is enough for now even with dx12 and oc it to 4.8Ghz. Then you should be all set

I wish there was a review of the 9800X so we could see how it performs compared to the 9900K. The 9800X is tempting because it doesn’t cost that much more than a 9900K and you get 44 PCIe lanes versus 9900K’s 16 lanes. Here in Canada the 9900K is $699 and the 9800X is $789.

Shows in stock on Newegg Canada although it ships from the U.S. Pretty tempting at $799 compared to the 9900K at $699 especially considering the X299 Dark can be found for about $460 here. One thing is the gaming performance of the 9800X won’t be quite as good as the 9900K, but I would imagine the 9800X can be overclocked a bit higher than the 7800X due to the solder.
