Afternoon,

So I bought a slightly abused Titan X off ebay as a project, the card was described as "crashing under load". So I eagerly put the card in my machine and it worked fine for about 30 mins and then crashed to a blank screen.

I noticed however that the card had been flashed to the hydro copper bios available on techpoweup. No problems I flashed the card back to stock and all seemed to be fine and it worked fine I was super happy.

However after thoroughly cleaning and upon installing my Kraken G10 with copper heatsinks on the VRM and VRAM I have started to get artifacting (little purple blocks) and a hard crash when the memory is put under-load at the stock 3500mhz effective. So I have downclocked the memory to 3300mhz effective and all seems to be well-passes every benchmark and I have played numerous games no problems at all.

Have I damaged the card somehow or is it dying do you think? is there anything that can be done? The error on gpu-z that is shown on crashing is vREL. Its a bit of an OCD thing that I want it to be able to run at stock speeds......

Specs:
mobo: asus p6t deluxe
CPU: X5670 @ 4.2ghz
RAM: 12gb Patriot 1600mz triple channel
GPU: Titan X
PSU: Corsair HX650w
Storage: kingston 120gb SSD. 3x Seagate 1tb

thanks Andrew

Hmm. Faulty installation causing an issue maybe? What happens when you put the stock cooler back on?

How were the copper heatsinks attached ?

What did you do to ensure airflow over those copper heatsinks ?

What kind of backplate ?  (they get hot on that side also)

I had EK water blocks & back plates on both of my EVGA Titan X SC  --> was Very happy with them
    - I've since sold the cards with the stock coolers installed - as the new owner was not going to water cool

Though my cards did pass all stability testing & benchmark runs with the stock coolers reattached (blower style)

Sounds like the card may be dying then. How old is your psu?

The ones with pre-applied stickers! the Card is cooled passively by the 90cm fan on the kraken and I have 140mm fans blowing air into the case.

The PSU is old probably around 2011? though the voltages look okay in HW info if this is anything to go by. I tried -150mhz and -100mhz on the memory and i get the old Exception code: 0xc0000005. going to try running two seperate PCI-e cables instead of the split 8-6+2

Might want to pop in a fresh psu to see if it helps with the artifacts, or you could test the card in another known good working system to see if you can replicate the artifacts.

    YES, best to use two

single +12V rail on your PSU ?

Yeah single 12v with 52A. Shows 11.933v in HWmonitor.

The card that came out was a R9 290 with same cooling configuration. Had no problems with that. The only backup PSU i have is a 550w bronze.

Well the good news is......I got some rubbing alcohol and a brush and gave the PCB a thorough cleaning. Ordered a new Kraken G12 bracket (my old one was bent a bit) and am happy to say my RAM speed is working without artifacts (touchwood) thus far. Happy days.

25c idle and 60c in Heaven.

    happy days.
