Hello everyone.

I have a new rig, an Asrock Z390 Pro 4 mobo (I am thinking this mobo doesnt support sli? ), 32gb memory, I9 9700k, and 2 Zotac 2080 video cards.
I set the system up (it was already set up by ABS Pre-Configured system, since I bought a system already configured), then set up sli.
Well, I NEVER get the sli option under nvidia control panel > 3d  settings > 'Configure' surround/physx (which SHOULD include SLI if SLI is detected).
If it IS the mobo, does anyone remember that software sli solution? I know the cards are the same everything, as I used Zotac Firestorm to check the bin/vid (basically the card, and the bios of the card).

Any help is appreciated.
Dave3d

P.S.
Yes, I have contacted both Zotac and ABS, but they are slow, and I dont know if they know about that Software SLI, or if that even works on 2080's yet?

Do you have multiple m.2’s installed?

If anything is drawing any extra pci lanes, they may be removing the lanes from the GPU’s.

Also, use GPU-z to verify you are getting all lanes with both GPU’s.

    No, no m.2
    And, yeah, I just used gpu-z and the 2nd card is being run at pciex16 @ x4 1.1 ?
    WTD?

It should be running at x16, not x4.
    :(

    Sigh.

I put power management on 'prefer max performasnce', but that didnt do anything.
    My mobo says 2x 16x pci-e 3.0 slots.
Nothing about x4, except the 1 x4 onboard and the 1 x1 onboard.
    :(

And, gpu-z does show both cards as:
    Device id: 10de-1e87-19da-3500
    clocks: 1515 1750 1830

    So, they are identical cards.

Re: 2080 SLI wont work 2018/11/12 19:16:32 (permalink)
    Shoot, nevermind.
I just reread the mobo manual, and it says:
    2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 Slots (PCIE2/PCIE4: single at x16 (PCIE2); dual at x16 (PCIE2) / x4 (PCIE4))

So, HOW can they say 2x pcie 3.0 x16 slots? And DUAL AT X16 ?
Thats not true if both slots being used are going to be x16/x4.
Heck, I took out the top card, and the 2nd pci-e slot is STILL at x4 ?

    Is that wrong or what?
Maybe there is a bios setting?
Hmm, going to have a poke around.
    :(

    SO disappointed.
Bought a pre-configed system so I would not have this issue.
    :(

    Edit:
    Nope.
Set everything up to be x16, not Auto or Disabled, set cpu to set pci-e lanes, and it is still x4 with a single card.
    What the duece?
I bought it because Newegg said it had 2 x16 slots and did xfire and sli.
Did I just get a bad board? Or is the wording such that they MAKE you think its 2 x 16x but its really 1 x16 and 1 x4 (in an x16 slot, for whatever reason?). ?

Hmmm, it HAS to be a mobo problem.
    CPUZ shows this:
    Graphic Interface
    Version Pci Express
    Link Width: X4    Supported: X16

So, that means this slot supports x16, like the mobo manual says right?
But, its stuck at X4 instead.
    :(

Guess I should go to the Asus site and check also.
    Sigh.
Remember when putting together a system was FUN ?

Pretty sure, the 2080 Needs the NvLink enabled bridge for the Motherboard to work.

Do you have the NVLink SLI bridge installed between both cards?

Yes, I have the NVLink hooked up.
Like I said though, the sli option NEVER shows up.
And, even with only 1 card hooked up to the bottom x16 slot, its still stuck at x4.

What the duece is up with that ?
If it supports xfirwe, and has 2 x16 slots, why doesnt it support sli?

Doesn't the 9700K only have 16 pcie lanes?  I believe so.  I also believe xFire will work with 4, 8, and 16 slots, but SLI needs 8 or 16.  Do you have any slots where you can configure things to two x8 lanes?

My z370 Killer SLI/AC Asrock supports SLI, hard to believe that one does not suport SLI in this day and age. I almost bought that MB.
You bought a pre-configured systems with two 2080 GPUs and it does not do SLI? I would get a refund

I would be livid if I bought a pre-built system with two 2080 and they can not SLI.
The MFR. should know they can't SLI and not even offer such a setup.

No, I bought the system that said it had 2x 16x slots, and 1 2080 card, and I knew they used the same video card as mine I already had.
So, I put my card in with the already installed card.
They did not show what mobo was in the system, just that it had 2x 16 3.0 slots. It wasnt until I got it that I found out what mobo it had.
    :(

I wonder WHY ABS put in an nvidia card in a mobo that only has xfire support though?
I hope I can get them to just exchange a mobo for me, to an sli one.
Its the only reason I bought from them and didnt do a REAL pre-configed system that I could ask for exact components. Well, that and it was on a pre-black friday sale, too good to pass up.

Yeah, but I bought the thing pre-configged to save money, now I will end up losing money on it having to buy my own mobo.
Kinda hinkey that ABS puts on there that its a 2x 16x 3.0 mobo, but NOT that it only supports Xfire.
    :(

And for the above person, I updated my sig to include the new system, not the old one. Thanks.

Can always sell the 2080 cards and buy two AMD Vega 64 cards and bank the extra money left over.
Two Vega 64 cards should play anything you throw at them.
I always thought the AMD card video was more vibrant than Nvidia. Never had an issue gaming on an AMD card.

    Thats a thought, except I have a G-Sync monitor.
Seems I can get a super duper similar mobo from asrock that JUST has the sli support, and everything else is the same, so I 'should' be able to just swap out the mobo and not have to mess with asny drivers.
The only thing is that ALL the Z390 I can find only have x8/x8 in sli, and thats everyone (except a SUPER expensive msi). Is that because of the chipset?
    Will 2 2080's saturate the 2 x8/x8 lanes?

I dont want to get a new mobo and have micro-stuttering because its saturating the pcie lanes.

Well, ordered the next step up of the exact mobo I have, on black friday sale, so not much money, and I will be able to do sli.
Still got a very good deal on my system, even though I had to buy a $167 - $30 - $20MIR mobo to make it sli.
And, I was able to up my win10 home to pro for free, since I have a previous pro system (8.1). Just had to put my old pro key into the upgrade system, and got Pro for free.
    :)
Not a bad deal at all, considering I probably would have spent ~$4-5k+ on an sli system, and this one is almost half that.

Good choice, very nice knife. I collect knives. Been collecting knives since I was in grade school.
I have a few in my EDC rotation, but I always come back to my Al Mar Eagle Talon ultra light.
Weighs only 2 oz, 4in blade and I can get it crazy sharp. Fairly easy to sharpen, it holds an edge very well, nicely balanced.
My Kershaw Damascus leek and Damascus skyline, and Case mid-folding Hunter assisted  are in the rotation.

The MB, maybe in a few weeks after this CC cycle is over. I bought a ship load of hardware the last few weeks.
The Mrs wants to see some boxes going out before more come in!! lol

    LOL NP.
Finally got the new mobo in and running, and I have to say:
    WOW!!!
2 2080's in SLI FINALLY give me the gaming I am looking for.
Dips only go down 'maybe' 20 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider (only once went into the 90's, and that was 97 IIRC). AND the CPU and GPU were almost in-line with each other this time!
Other games bench and run at over 200 fps now (they were fine before, at 100's, but did those dips down like 40 fps, and the stutter is just terrible trying to game like that. But, no more! SLI absolutely rocks with the 2080's.
I have yet to try Vermintide 2, but it ran at 113 and lower also, so should be really nice and tight now. EDIT: Dipped to 89 one time, dang it! Thought I would get away with upped 90's and above, but nope, that many rats at one time, all that AI, sigh. :)
Strange Brigade was all 200's and above.
Snipe Elite 4 got down to 167, in an area that had lots and lots of shadows, with far away mountains and buildings, 6 enemies, and water (a lake). The rest of the times it was stable at 189-210's. But, I did go from 4x AA to 16x, and that had a weird effect on the game (or SLI did): When there was water, the game got choppish-ey. Only on standing water, like puddles. Guess it is the reflections from the puddles and high AA doing that or something?
Ghost Recon Wildlands finally able to max everything. Lowest fps was 82.
    :D

Oh, and I am an 'EVGA' user AGAIN, since I had to put my EVGA 1600W psu in just to run this beast! (the 750 didnt really like running with sli (It was a 'cougar' brand and would have gotten replaced anyway), so in went the 1600.

I have some pics (I wanted all blue, but the front fans for some reason are Red ONLY, and dont do the whole color thing, so everything blue with 3 front fans at red dod NOT look good, lol).

    @Bill:
Nice, I USED to have over 300 knives and swords, but had to sell almost all of them when I lost my job, and I have been collecting since I was, what, 15?
Maybe I will share a pic of an old old old computer room with you, that had a few of my knives and swords on display. ;)
