Hey all,

I've noticed since I recently picked up my 1000w g1+ power supply, there's a unfamiliar sound that will occasionally happen. It doesn't always coincide with when I'm doing something intensive with my machine either, could be while browsing the web (no videos, etc.).

Typically when the sound happens, it does seem like the fan in the power supply kicks on, or at least runs a bit faster than it did before but only briefly.

It's not the typical tick noise or clicking I've seen posted about. It's almost like an electronic noise when an old computer would turn on. I can only describe it as an electronic revving up or turning on, lasts about 5 seconds and goes away. It happens so irregularly I don't think I'd ever be able to capture a video of it either. I've spent a while trying to find anyone else mentioning if this is normal behavior or not.

I'm not overly concerned about it but would like to get some insight if this is at all normal or known as typical behavior.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

    Hello kandersen1991,

It seems like your power supply has some coil whine, it's not harmful to your system and won't cause it to fail. Most of the time the issue resolves it self after a few weeks, but if  a month or two have passed and you still have coil whine, let us know and we can assist with an RMA.

    Hey Gabriel,

    Thanks for the quick response!

I am somewhat familiar with coil whine from my aging GPU, which tends to be pretty high pitched in my experience. Didn't know this could potentially be that as well!

Would this still be considered coil whine when it's lower in tone? I feel like it's comparable to the sound when a(n) older computer would cold boot, like something in the power-supply is coming to life. It basically lasts 5 seconds or less and has a similar sound when an electronic is first powered on, even though my machine has already been on for some time. I feel like I'm describing this so poorly so I apologize.

I'll give it a few weeks and see if it continues to do it. Since it doesn't actually happen continuously like my GPU can during heavy load, it really doesn't bother me.

Also try plugging your PC into another home power outlet not on the same circuit with the outlet you are now using if possible. See if the coil whine decreases any.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Sorry to dig up this post, however since it had my previous issues documented I thought it would be best to start here again.

I've recently upgraded my GPU and I'm still having what I'm assuming is some pretty bad coil whine. It only happens once in game and I've isolated the noise with rubber tubing, it's coming from the PSU.

How can I go about RMA'ing it? If possible I'd like to have a replacement shipped to me and I can then send back my current one to minimize down-time on this rig. Is that even an option, say if I were to provide my CC number or something like that for a temp. hold charge until the bad one is sent back?

Yes, it's called a standard cross ship rma. When you start an rma you can request it.
