Cant overclock Tri Titans with Precision 16 with updated nvidia drivers

Hi
I have not been around the overclocking world for a couple of years, and decided to check the scores on 3dmark with my tri titans to see how far behind I am
(a bit old now I know)..
 
anyway when I was using my old nvidia 355 drivers and a older precision version , I was having issues with 3dmark validity, so I updated the nvidia drivers to the latest (416).. and then everything started to go wrong.
 
I keep having precision X or older  Precision 16, locking up if I try to change anything in the dashboard.
I also have similar problems with  current afterburner.
 
it as if something major has changed (compatability?) that I am not aware of.
 
I have done clean installs (pre removing all drivers).  I seem to have stability issues when I go back to my old drivers and old precision version now .. so I have gonr back to the new nvida drivers .. and 3d marks running fine.. but I just cant seem to be able to overclock the titans at all now.
 
Anyone with some ideas?

    Have a spare hdd/sdd you can reinstall windows on? If yes, I would suggest trying that to see if it helps resolve the issue or not.

    Are you running X16 Version 5.3.11 Release: 4/12/2016
    I changed over to PXOC Version 6.2.7 on mine and with 3-Way SLI they did really well
    But running Driver 373.06, 390.65 is doing well now but only on 1 Titan now.
    Uninstall X16 and delete the EVGA folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\
    restart and then reinstall X16 or PXOC 6.2.7
