Hey guys. I’m trying to change the bios on my evga sc2 gtx1080ti. I have now liquid cooled my pc and the temps are extremely low, max gpu temp 40c whilst running extreme benchmark.
The low temps are causing the gpu to boost clock which is good however it’s using up all my power and I cannot manual overclock as a result. 2000mhz it’s boosting to without a manual overclock.

I want to push this card to 2100mhz but that’s impossible without a bios change. I want to run the 358w ftw bios. I have followed some guides online using nvflash however the new bios doesn’t seem to take.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Sam

You cannot run the FTW3 Bios on an SC2 Graphics Card.

If you want to use the bios, you may brick your card. Clearly the other user didn’t gain 100mhz like you are wanting.

And yes, you do risk bricking your card.

The ftw3 has a completely different vrm layout.

Brick the card with the wrong bios will void warranty.

You can do it but you indeed risk bricking your card.

If you kill your card updating the bios you will be the only one responsible and the warranty will be voided. You have been warned (again).

That beeing said, thought even with a failed flashed bios you can also try to flash the original one using another video card for displaying with the bricked card plugged in. However this does not mean that it's a solution that will allow to unbrick a card every time.

What do you mean by "the new bios doesn't seem to take"? What happens exactly? What commands did you use to flash the card? What are the exact steps you took?

Also 40°C doesn't seem that low with watercooling. My 1080Ti watercooled runs at 35°C max at 120% TDP. What watercooling system do you have (waterblock, radiator)? Are you sure it is installed properly?

Also if you really want to unlock your card, the best bios is the asus strix 1080Ti XOC bios which has no power limit and voltage unlocked until 1.2v. The FTW3 bios is not better than the XOC bios. Also do not try to use the XOC bios on aircooling as it could fry your card because it would run too hot.

But you need to know that even if you might get higher clocks using another bios with higher TDP/vcore, a lot of people are reporting lower performance score on 3DMark even with faster clocks on another bios. So a lot of them went back to their original bios because even with lower clocks they had better performance with it.

Once again, i am not responsible if you kill your card trying to flash it.

That’s the maximum temp before my fans increase rpm as I have fan management set to silent operation. Also ambient temps are high in house now as the heating is on (almost winter)

I use x2 alpha cool pure copper rads. Ek pump. Ek cpu block
I use the evga hydro copper water block on the gpu.

When running the nvflash. I get through the commands fine. Protection off. Nvflash -6 biosname.rom.

Then go though the sceens asking me if I really want to this. So Y Y and then it appears to flash. I reboot and check the bios but it’s still running the original.

Do you run an elevated command prompt? Do you use the latest version of nvflash? Did you check if your downloaded bios and nvflash files are unlocked on windows when you right click -> properties on them?

Did you try to reinstall the drivers after the reboot and flash (clean install)?

    Try flashing with -L log.txt -6 biosname.rom

This will generate a log.txt file. Post it here please.

If it still doesn't work, you can try to use nvflash 5.370 instead of the newest version.

Neutro I can’t thank you enough. It’s flashed successfully. Windows has locked the rom file.
Every is running as it should and now I have a better power curve. Thanks again.

    Glad to hear it :)

So what did the trick? What results do you get with the new bios? ;)

My MSI 1080Ti Sea Hawk EK X (couldn't get my hands on a kingpin in france but i wish i could have :D ) can run 2100 Mhz @ 1.093v  with the stock bios at 35°C. When i flashed the Asus Strix OC bios that has no power limit and 1.2v i could reach 2160 Mhz at 40°C but my results on 3DMark were the same than at 2100 Mhz... So i went back to the original bios ;)

The files needed to be unlocked in the properties. So simple. Can’t believe I spent hours trying to figure it out.

Ok so performance in terms of overclocking hasn’t changed, there is some sort of limiter on the sc2 card, it will not run over 2075mhz. Same on all 3 bios I tried, stock, ftw, and amp extreme. Amp extreme will boost clock to 2075mhz without any overclocking. But if I even add +4 on the core clock then it doesn’t run. There has to be a power cap.
Temp wise. Mid 30s with fans at 700rpm.

I can add +1000 on the memory clock and it runs sweet.

All the bios you used do not allow more than 1.093v on the vcore.

Disclamer: once again nor myself nor evga can be responsible if you kill your card using the bios i'm providing below. It will void your warranty. Use it at your own risk and it should never be used on anything else than a powerful custom watercooling (no hybrid kits with this bios).

You can try this one (Asus Strix OC bios) that allows to go to 1.2v and no software power limit.

Use Sajin's guide to set a custom curve on afterburner that allows your card to run at 1.2v at all times.

This way you can see what is the real maximum frequency your card can reach. But as i said, as it's a bios for a card from asus that has a different design, even with better frequencies you probably wont get more performance.

PS: use 3DMark instead of other benchmarks. It's more reliable imho.

    PS2:
Mid 30s with fans at 700rpm.

This is an amazing temperature for a 1080Ti. Congrats!

Hey dude. The bios in the link. Can I flash the rar file? Or does it need to be extracted?

I did try a ASUS strix bios but it still didn’t allow me to go over 1.08v. So must have been the wrong bios.

It needs to be extracted. You flash the .rom file inside the .rar.

I'm using the stock cooling that comes with the card. I see your bios version is for the water cooling version of the card. Wouldn't that toast my card if I flashed it with that bios version?

The cards sensors and controls won't let you get too the point of cooking the card, it will start to power back / down clock before it implodes

If you look at the link where the Bios's are obtained (http://forum.kingpincooling.com/showthread.php?t=3979) there is the one titled "FTW3_ AIR OC BIOS" which is the one I think I am using

WOW! Is there a change log on what's new with the bios version: 86.02.39.01.91 I downloaded the file and extracted it to the desktop. It shows a primary and secondary. I'm running in SLI. Do I have to flash each card separately to do perform the firmware update?

Well I have tried the xoc bios and I still can’t run more than 1.08v. This will only allow me to clock to 2075. Very annoying as the temps are so cool.

    Primary = Master
    Seconday = Slave

I'd recommend flashing each card separately with the other completely removed from the system.

I just did exactly that with 100% success. I am now on bios version 86.02.39.01.91 for both my cards. Question? Do I set both card's switches back to master or primary card master and secondary card slave? Which order would be best for my SLI configuration? Also, when do you think we will see another bios update hit the web on a 1080 Ti FTW3? It seems it took a good while for the newer bios version to leak out. I would think newer bios releases are planned for such a high-end card. Does anyone know if there is a change log for this bios release I didn't see one in the download folder?

I'd set both of them to slave. Don't think there will be anymore vbios updates for the FTW3.

Must be something specific to your system or card as I hit the 1.093v on my 1080ti FTW3 on water. What is "Your Card"? If it is just an normal 1080ti FTW3 like the rest of us then your clocking higher then I am with less voltage. You are getting more then the guaranteed base boost of an Kingpin card, be happy.
