I have come across a strange issue. My laptop starts off charging fine with the AC adapter that came with it.  However, randomly after plugging and unplugging the laptop as I move it around during the day, the battery icon in Windows 10 shows the status of 'plugged in, not charging'.  The only way to fix this error is to restart my computer.  I usually have multiple desktops open with multiple programs running; it is very annoying to have to restart my computer and reopen all my programs.

Has anyone seen this bug?  Is there any way to resolve this without restarting my computer.

Thanks!

Hey,

You should check your BIOS settings as shown here on another laptop:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSpHcZeiis4

If there is a specific evga driver / software that controls the power charging on win10 be sure you have it installed, up to date and setup right.

Last but not least you can try to unplug your battery then remove the battery drivers on windows to force windows to reinstall them as explained here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNBFl4Bn7CU

Dont forget to report here if it solved it so other people can know it too ;)

#edit: whoops i was writing my message while Albertof was also doing it :) You'd better follow what he tells you to do instead of what i wrote here! :)

Agreed. I have 3 laptops which do the same thing. EVGA, Lenovo, and Razer. If you see that message at 90% charge or more, no worries. If you see that message at 60% charge, worry. When that message appears, just let it be, use it like normal, and verify that the battery does not continue to discharge.

It's very hard on the battery to maintain a full charge.

It occurs at random charge amounts, not at 90%, but setting the computer to stop charging at 90% sounds like a good idea to me since I use this plugged in most of the time.  Will try the mentioned fixes once I'm done using the computer for the day, hope it something simple.  Thanks for the help!

So did you fix your problem? What did the trick? :) Share the knowledge so other people who have the same one day can use it :)

If you use your computer plugged most of the time remove the battery to save its life :)

SC17 laptop --> has a sealed battery, access is by disassembly of laptop body

Set your laptop to "sleep" when lid is closed --> does it charge then, with lid closed ?

My new HP displays similar Windows 10 Messages ---> closing lid allows it to "charge" though I usually do not try unless below 25 -30 %

If your laptop says "plugged in, not charging" at 25%-30% battery, there is something wrong with your laptop, charger, or battery. You should contact the manufacturer.

Him, on the other hand, seeing at message at 98% battery level is totally normal. The laptop purposely avoids charging the battery completely depending on use, load, temperature, etcetera in order to extend the battery's life. Charging lithium ion to full capacity regularly is hard on it and will cause the battery to fail sooner.

I updated the bios and haven't experienced the power issue anymore.  However, now my laptop freezes whenever I launch PrecisionX mobile.  It seems to be seen by other users who updated the bios.

@  mcyberey

If your logged-in it should work    https://www.evga.com/pxm/

I just tested it

You would need to have registered a qualifying product

or this error:  "You must have a valid product registered to your account to download PrecisionX Mobile."

Finally I realized I have to click the following check boxes and select update my profile:

"Yes, I accept EVGA's Privacy Policy. Furthermore, I also accept the processing of my personal data as set out in EVGA's Privacy Policy."
"Yes, I accept EVGA's Terms of Use."

Else, it keeps redirecting you to your profile page with no explanation.

Then you can visit  again and download.

What does this have to do with the subject of this thread (SC17 not charging message)?

Find it in the same place for both laptops. Hint: in the menu at the top of this page, look under Service.
