Oh yeah. Totally agree with you. That was the first thing that I cynically thought watching his video. But he would not be making this up. But no doubt he is kinda happy in that he can keep selling his after market enthusiast parts and pre-binned CPUs at big mark ups.

Just wondering if theres any word on the new BIOS for the X299 boards for Basin Falls CPU's?
I already have the EVGA X299 FTW-K with 7800X for my home server, and I want to upgrade my gaming PC from EVGA Z77 FTW to another EVGA X299 FTW-K with 9800X which have just released here for pre-order.

I believe that the current BIOS available for each board should work fine with the new CPU's, since they use the same architecture.  However, we are adding new BIOS updates today to improve Overclocking with the new CPUs, and a nice surprise for X299 Micro and X299 FTW owners....

Virtually every credible reviewer has mentioned fast 9900K with unexpectedly high die temperatures. So I don't know what you are trying to say.

I meant more business for Der8auer's, meant more sales, more deliding tools, meant more business more Silicon Lottery or Business offer that kind of services!!! CPU that TB to 5.0Ghz expected to be little hot!!!

Firstly, congratulations on your Dark motherboard: it really is a quality bit of kit!

Second, nice price. Like you I managed to get it during a sale.

Third, earlier (in this thread I believe) an EVGA tech said that Basin Falls CPUs (like the 9800X you are looking to get) would boot in the Dark on the older bios, but be limited in their overclocking. As they will boot then you can enter the old bios and update to the newest bios and you will be good to go. Like baconaugh suggested, if this does not work then EVGA will just be able to send you a replacement bios chip, but that takes time which hopefully will be unnecessary.

Have fun.

Do you guys think it's worth waiting for the 9xxx x? I'm actually considering a 7920x for my board mostly because of the price 1276$ since the 9920x will be like 1519$ here in sweden..

Well everything, benching, gaming, rendering. But mostely I need a multitask monster with pcie lanes.. So basically I need the fastest cpu I can afford and that is right now the 7920x, But at the time the 9920x comes out I will be abel to afford it but if it's just 5% faster and soldered it's not going to justify the 240 ish $ difference.. or will it?

$240 difference... hmm...

Really the answer to that depends on your financial situation and price sensitivity. Everyone's perspective on that will vary slightly.

The previous answer (the one that says "depends on what you use it for") is a good point. You say you need PCIe lanes: well there are no differences between the two CPUs you mention to justify $240 in that regard. You mention multicore monster: the extra cache and slight core speed bump will make the new chip slightly faster at the multicore stuff. $240 worth? Hmm.

One thing we don't know is if Basin Fall's solder TIM works well, or if there are thermal issues like we see on 9900K. To me that would be the deciding factor. If tests show the new TIM to work well then I would spend the extra on the new CPU. Otherwise I would save the money and go SL-X.

Thank you for your input and thought, I am of course going to overclock it as high as it will go wather it's a cooling factor or a silicon factor that limits me from going any higher. I will push it to the edge so it might just comes down to which I'm abel to cool in a more affective way or which of the two who has the best silicone.. I also have a deal now on a refurbish 7900x at 889$ but idk.. think I'll need those two extra cores later on.

Delid it before you even try to OC regardless of the Cooler!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't planing on not deliding ;)

No one thinks that i7-9800X is a drool fest? 44 pcie lanes and 8 cores for ALMOST half the price of the 10 core models??? I was just about to hit buy now for the i9-7940X for 1,000$ but then realized I would have to buy a 95$ delid kit from de8auer

So did I make the right choice waiting for the 9800X? Also when is the release date?

Big question though I just ordered a x299 dark from EVGA directly. So will it support it out the box with new micro code or will I have to go get a another cpu to flash? I don’t have any flashing tools with me also. Only a usb

Haha i'm also waiting for the 9800x, IMHO anyone who bought the 9900k is braindead! I mean seriously if you're paying 500$ for a cpu then you will most likely go with sli and if you're going with sli then you will obviously get an rtx 2080 or 2080 ti and they will get bottlenecked with the x8/x8 configuration and lose out on 16% of performance thanks to the 16 lanes provided from the 9900k

Which is why the 9800x is the better option

I think the next intel z470 cpu's should at least have 36 lanes from the cpu instead of the measly 16

The 9900K benefited a good bit from delidding, and die sanding. I doubt the 9800X and up will be any different in that respect, but I'm sure de8auer will do another analysis.

Why does it say in Intel’s website it’s launched but not out anywhere?
