Two days ago one of the fans in my SC17 started to rattle. The noise was light and not much annoying. But today the rattle became quite a lot louder and with different nasty noises, sometimes it feels like it's hitting something. I did try to check for any "debris" with a light but it looks clean, and I doubt that that could be the cause. I didn't open the back panel because there is a seal on one of the screws. I'm quite certain that it's the left fan (CPU side ?) that makes those noises because they are getting louder with time.
Here are some videos for reference:

I love this laptop and it's my work PC, so this is a bit unfortunate.
Any help appreciated.

I second ty_ger07 recommendation. RMA while still under warranty, do not wait.  Unfortunately the fans are not easily available from 3rd party vendors.

I did as advised. The support team here is quite nice. They helped with the RMA submission and it got approved right away. So I'm shipping my laptop out to EVGA while it's on warranty. Hoping for the best. Will update with further news.

Got my laptop back a few days ago. All seems fine now. The fan is working and quiet, as it used to be. It was in the service only for two days (minus shipping there and back, of course). All went smooth. Communication on point.

    Thanks EVGA !

Glad to hear it went well. Mine is doing this also, just waiting til I have my new rig built so I'm not stuck without a computer.

I am really sorry to say this, but it looks like the rattle is coming back. The same fan and the sound just increases day after day, in the same way as before. Seems like the fan wasn't even replaced. Right now the rattle is most noticeable on a 35% fan speed. I'm inclined to requesting a replacement for a new unit if that is possible, or a Step-up. I'm just sad right now.

I just submitted an RMA request a few days ago to get my fan fixed, but been having second thoughts about it. The laptop itself runs well and I'm concerned they'll outright replace it with one that may have other issues. Was there a way to request them for repair only and not replacement?

I have the SC17(980m version), and I had the same issue with rattling in the fan and what seemed to work was thoroughly dusting the fans off every 2 months or whenever the idling rpm on either fan dropped below 2050rpm as the dust seems to create a significant imbalance in the fans that causes it to rattle especially at higher rpms. That being said, I also just stopped using inclined laptop stands as the rattle would occur much more often, probably due to the fans rotating at an off angle while the laptop was tilted.

No, there wasn't. I'd assume that this decision is made by their service center after they inspect your device.

Thanks @XelereleX, those are good points. Although mine started to rattle again in 2 weeks after the service, and that is strange. It now rattles constantly and I didn't get any feedback from the team that was working on my laptop to know if the fan was really replaced. So I'm inclined to open the back and look at the cooler. I didn't really want to do that because there's a little seal on one of the screws and I'm not 100% sure that breaking it won't void the warranty. On the other hand, this laptop should be upgradable so opening shouldn't void the warranty.

I've noticed this exact behavior on my 1070 SC17. Had a fan rattle that was fixed with mild application of a soft brush for dusting. As a bonus the fan spun ~150 rpm quicker on max setting after dusting.

Thank you all for your replies! I also vent ahead and opened the bottom lid and cleaned the fan (although it seemed totally clean). 5 days passed already and I don't hear any rattling. Strange behavior but dedusting the fan seems to help.

Just got my SC17 980m back from EVGA yesterday and so far no noises. Very quiet and they didn't even change my BIOS settings  I'm glad they didn't replace it as a new laptop would be a dice roll for new problems. Just need to reinstall everything now.
