My 11yr old niece (who has been with me since she was 5) has downloaded Fortnite to play with her friends who are also 11 and 12 yr olds. I have read a few reviews and it varies, some say it's okay for 10 and up and some say over 18.  What  is your take.  Thanks in advance.

Krane, as gamers, Allow them to play whatever they want to play. There's plenty of people out here in the world trying to censor our games and stuff just because of a little blood or language... this is all over the world.

Fortnite is NOTHING like those games they're protesting and making a big fuzz about it. My nephews play it daily (11 and 13) I've played it with them, There's literally nothing wrong with the game.

Edit: Just read this and tell me how sane you think these people are

Everything in moderation. If they can't find balance between gaming and life, then you need to find it for them.

Like Brad said, in moderation. Let the kid play but make sure they know not to give out personal information.

Of course video games won't give you lung cancer, but not all harmful health effects are physical.  That said, I'm no expert and don't know what effect playing violent games has on young impressionable minds.  If there isn't anyone in this thread that has access to and studied accredited research, they don't know either.

With a rating of TEEN I would say I would have the same feelings as I would in having a child watch a PG-13 movie. I would be making sure play time is limited but really I don't see any harm in video games. It can even get her interested in computers.

I'm leaning this way, but I don't know how mature your niece is. It would also suck for her not to be playing with her friends.

Game content is not the issue here (and rarely ever is) its the people online that are a SERIOUS problem for young...
--->I would NOT allow -any- 11 year old to interact with some of the people currently playing Fortnite.

*games -without- text chat and voice features are a better choice for the young

These are all good points, Great points even. I am going to think this through and take everything stated here into consideration. Thank you all for your advice. It has been some time since there was such a young child in my home (my youngest just turned 31 and my oldest will be 42) so I do appreciate all the suggestions.

In the End it should be the Mother and Father (Or Guardian) that makes this choice for their child.
Not the Uncle, the Aunt or even Grandfather or Grandmother.

Well I am her guardian an have been for 6 years now, ultimately I make the final decisions on all matters concerning her.  If that were the case then of course you are right.

Are you afraid she'll be in the backyard building wooden walls after?

There are far worse things your kid is doing/watching at that age than Fortnite. I wouldn't worry about it.

I let my 9 year old Son play it. Rule is he must play it on main T.V. in living room and an adult needs to be present. However according to the modern handbook on parenting I am probably failing. He has a dirtbike, races BMX, is involved in kickboxing, bjj, and has his own .223, .22LR, and .30 carbine.

It is all about communication, parenting, setting boundaries, rules, and following through.

Only you know your child. No offense, but I would never parent via opinion poll on a forum.

    What Kaninja said....

Ive seen too many aduits on too much screen time and no people skills, teach our kids things are a balance and you dont always get what you want. Too many adults that act more like spoiled teenagers these days... Be a parent not their best bud. Your kids will respect and love you later on in their lives....

Thank you all for your advice, I was asking about the game I have heard of it, but I have no knowledge of what the game is. I am not asking parenting advice as I have a few adult children probably older than some of you.  I was asking about the game itself.  Again I thank all of you for responding.
