I think water cooling this card will make a HUGE difference cause I still think heat as this biggest slowdown on the card. Maybe this week they will have a few hydrocoppers to sell. Least I spent ample time doing burn in testing on the card.

Next I have to figure out why [link=mailto:folding@home]folding@home[/link] is not seeing any hardware when i install it and there are no tabs to add any in in configure on the FaH control panel.

Well, the weekend is over and I have multiple contractors back in the AM. Time to put away my toys till next weekend.

Got bored watching them float and tape the kennel room so started dinking around some more.

Out of curiosity I set the gpu setting to stock, I left the bios in the OC version and I ran a benchmark on it.

First I let the card warm up on heaven loop for a while, and watched the clocks drop all the way down to 1760. Since stock clocks are what, 1755 I was a little curious.

I decided to run time spy extreme next after setting up x1 to the log clock speed.

The clock speed dropped all the way down to 1625 during the benchmark. That means i have to overclock just to get to the promised 1755mhz clock preformance.

No not necessarily - the GPU will only work as hard as it Needs to base on the Task & as long as its not getting too Hot

To see what the GPU can do, this is what I do:

Step 1) slide GPU Temp & Power Target all the way up & use very demanding Benchmarks like - Fire Strike Ultra & Superposition 8K

Step 2) to see if Voltage is an issue slide the Voltage slider all the way - it will only use/ take what it needs

Step 3) Play with + MHz

Isnt Time spy extreme a very demanding bench. Direct X 12

It is a heat issue however on this card. Gpu memory on the top and middle both are breaking 87c while at stock. The front memory stays around 60c. The core gets close to 81.

Overclocks of 134 with 925 mem. I can get up to 2085 on a cold run. As the card gets warm it will drop to 1840 at the same overclock and not rise.

Warm it will show on testing as a 2070 overclock but it clocks quickly back down to 1840.

Heaven is an old benchmark but it is great for showing the decreased performance over time with heat. Starting at a solid 2085mhz and you watch the preformance creap down over time.

It took a good 20 min for the performance in heaven at stock clocks, to slowly drop from 1885 down to 1760 and it likely would have continued to drop. It should remain at a similar clock seeing as it's a loop bench. Not continue to drop.

Do you have yours under water? If so are the temps more consistant accross the memory modules?

Re: Greetings all. 2018/11/10 10:12:34 (permalink)
Well, I decided to RMA the old card because i could not get a decent stable clock on it even at stock clocks.

So.. Last night the RMA came in.

I quickly cleaned up graphic drivers, uninstalled X1 shut down the monster and installed the new card.

Out of the box at stock clocks it is running at 1980 mhz.... Right up to the point I installed X1.  X1 applied a firmware update for the LED issues. I believe I clicked it, turned my head for a few min and missed where it applied it and clicked again, witch failed and killed the card.... 3 red lights fans full speed x1 not doing a thing.

Reading around the forums I found a post from

EVGA_JacobF
Did you try the MCU updater? https://www.evga.com/supp...mmain.aspx?faqid=59742

First time I ran it is failed, I think something in my windows profile was screwy, cause X1 would crash changing pages or saving and F@H would not install with any hardware. I uninstalled X1 again, created a new local admin account and made a new log in account to tie to my MS account.

Installed the MCU updater again and it worked, fixing the card. Since it was 0.3.5.1 that toasted it the first time i went with the new X1 beta_beta 0.3.5.4. LED flashed fine and everythings working.
https://forums.evga.com/New-Precision-X1-BETA-0354-m2880184.aspx

Now i have not fine tuned anything. The OC test gave me 155 as my number i tried that then bumped it to 170, have not tried higher yet... but i am not sure i want it as high as it is to be honest. Knowing it can get there is the fun part too.

*UPDATE*
This is it running at +170 +1000 memory. https://www.3dmark.com/spy/4999690
This is it running at +175 +1100 memory. clocks went down score went up. https://www.3dmark.com/spy/5000785

I tuned it back to +155 +1100 memory and it passes all the benches so i will leave it there.

On a side not I upgraded the MB and CPU to an I7 8700k that overclocks to 5.15 MHZ with 1.34v core stable. Ran a 6 hour OCCT bench The temps are max spike 78c average between 60 - 65. Its water cooled but not delided. I don't think it needs it.

nice CPU OC

Did you do the full power Off - pull the plug, hold start button 30 seconds thing to allow the MCU to update ?

Nice scores

Yes both times. But like i said i think my profile was corrupted because, the mouse would not left click till i Ctl Atl Del then escaped... weird I know. X1 constantly crashed, cut and paste would occasionally paste a file path to a .DMP file and nothing else.

I did a fresh clean windows install yesterday because of it but when i connected to MS it brought down my profile some how. I had icons for things that where not even installed it... just weird stuff.

After I deleted the profile and made one with a new user name all that nonsense cleaned up.

I did take your advice on shutting off quick startup. I have a m,2 PCIE drive, disabling it actually made me boot faster. 6 seconds down from 9.
