‘The Witcher’ Author Demands $16 Million in Royalties From CD Projekt Red

Polish fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski is seeking approximately $16 million in copyright royalties from “The Witcher” game developer CD Projekt Red. The author believes the deal was for 1 game only but CD Projekt Red says that he has been paid. This could end up in court but that also depends on the language used in the contract when the author was paid.

    His fault for signing on for a lump sum instead of royalties in the first place since he doubted the games success. The Cyberpunk 2020 maker, Mike Pondsmith, was smart and signed up for royalties from the get-go.

    ...and if the first game had tanked and not made a dime , would CD Projekt Red be able to go back and claim they paid too much  ??  I am sure he would have been willing to give a refund at that time.! ?
     
    He made a bad deal and now he sees someone profiting from it more than him = sour grapes.
     
    I don't think he realizes in the end he made a ton more money by his books / short stories selling BECAUSE of the games popularity by being made in a quality fashion by that studio .....

    I demand a pony. We all make our own graves and lie in it. Don't sign bad contracts and then decide to sue a decade later. It makes it so people don't want to employ you.
