Hi y'all, I have a problem... this morning both my monitors were being recognized no problem. Then suddenly the Apple monitor is now being shown as "Unknown display"...

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 with the monitors #1 Dell (into the DVI) and #2 Apple monitor (also a DVI cable, but adapted to HDMI), both connected straight to the video card. #2 is the one that won't come on.

The adapter and the Apple monitor are in good shape and work with the Dell monitor and the Dual monitors do work on Windows (I have two boot OSs).

Any suggestions?

Go to system settings, display settings, and press the "detect screens" button.

Have you done any graphics drivers or windows updates recently? Also do you have the option to go into Nvidia control panel under the display tap if both monitor are being detected by the system they will show up here. In this page can you list the information that you see, with that we can try to understand what is happening.

Thanks the both of you for helping me out. I got a solution and I will try to share as much as I can remember. Here are the things I've tried:
- Booting on windows and seeing if both monitors work (they did)
- Change the configs on both "Display" in the "System Settings" menu (Ubuntu 16) (Nothing happened)
- Reinstall the newest driver (nothing happened)

That's when I decided to download the newest driver file, go into console, remove all the video drivers then installing the new driver. That still didn't do it. But I hard power cycled the monitor and that did it. There was a couple of versions of the drivers in the machine. From the "Additional drivers" you could see that the computer was running on one driver, and through the Nvidia control panel it was something different. That and the fact that the Apple monitor has to hard reset to come on, did the trick...

Again, thanks for your help y'all

Must be an Ubuntu/Nvidia driver issue since everything works fine in windows.
