The sixth Challenge of the 2018 Challenge series is a 7 day challenge to celebrate Oktoberfest. The challenge is being offered on the Cullen Prime Search (LLR) application.  Sep 15 18:00:00 to Sep 22 18:00:00 (UTC)
Only tasks downloaded after the start and turned in before the end will count, so no bunkering.

This is a LLR challenge, Intel with AVX or better (Sandybridge) will do better. Watch temps and overclock.
Multithread will get them in faster, but may not get the most PPD. First one in get the prime founder status.

About the Cullen Prime Search

A Cullen number in the form of n*2^n+1. Fr. James Cullen first studied these numbers in 1905 because they have interesting divisibility properties. It is conjectured that there are infinitely many n values that will yield Cullen primes, though it has been shown that almost all are composite.

Top Twenty Cullen Primes in Chris Caldwell's Database

The following n values yield prime Cullen numbers (OEIS A005849) (ones found at Primegrid highlighted):

1, 141, 4713, 5795, 6611, 18496, 32292, 32469, 59656, 90825, 262419, 361275, 481899, 1354828, 6328548, and 6679881.

What is LLR?

The Lucas-Lehmer-Riesel (LLR) test is a primality test for numbers of the form N = k*2^n − 1, with 2^n > k. Also, LLR is a program developed by Jean Penne that can run the LLR-tests. It includes the Proth test to perform +1 tests and PRP to test non base 2 numbers.

This is a CPU project, so if you're folding with your GPU only, and want to throw some CPU cycles on this, any help is welcome.

Starts in just over 13 hours.  2:00PM Eastern USA time.

I tried a couple different ways, One task per core, MT splitting up the CPU different ways.
Seemed to not make a difference in PPD throughput. Going to go with returning them the fastest. First one gets the prime.

A couple hours into it, will be a while before I score and points, some long tasks.

    After 1 day:

    Challenge: Oktoberfest
    App: 4 (CUL-LLR)
    (As of 2018-09-16 18:00:06 UTC)

    6825 tasks have been sent out. [CPU/GPU/anonymous_platform: 6818 (100%) / 0 (0%) / 7 (0%)]

Of those tasks that have been sent out:

    519 (8%) came back with some kind of an error. [519 (8%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
    701 (10%) have returned a successful result. [696 (10%) / 0 (0%) / 5 (0%)]
    5605 (82%) are still in progress. [5603 (82%) / 0 (0%) / 2 (0%)]

Of the tasks that have been returned successfully:

    632 (90%) are pending validation. [629 (90%) / 0 (0%) / 3 (0%)]
    68 (10%) have been successfully validated. [66 (9%) / 0 (0%) / 2 (0%)]
    0 (0%) were invalid. [0 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
    1 (0%) are inconclusive. [1 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]

The current leading edge (i.e., latest work unit for which work has actually been sent out to a host) is n=16778645. The leading edge was at n=16629587 at the beginning of the challenge. Since the challenge started, the leading edge has advanced 0.90% as much as it had prior to the challenge!

That's about 6 times the normal daily rate -- but since a lot of computers take more than a day to finish a task, especially if they're not using multi-threading, that's underestimating the actual processing rate.

No primes so far. It's been 9 years since the last Cullen prime.

Current tasks are about 5% longer than at the beginning of the challenge due to an increase in FFT size. Credit is increased proportionally. And, of course, as the numbers get larger the tasks take longer to process.

Not sure but 4 out 11 have that designation for me. Maybe if it's a prime and someone else validates it, you get the credit for it. Or maybe something much simpler.

That's right, it means you turned it in first and if prime you are the founder.

Less than 24 hours to go.
I am trying to catch LookAS, slowly gaining, but will time run out before that happens?
Although I will be happy when this one is over.

Czech National Team  Seems to have come from out of nowhere this year.
They have been doing very well in these challenges. Giving ATP and the Germans a run for their money.

10 hours as of this post

    Challenge: Oktoberfest
    App: 4 (CUL-LLR)
    (As of 2018-09-21 18:15:23 UTC)

    17473 tasks have been sent out. [CPU/GPU/anonymous_platform: 17437 (100%) / 0 (0%) / 36 (0%)]

Of those tasks that have been sent out:

    2335 (13%) came back with some kind of an error. [2335 (13%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
    9024 (52%) have returned a successful result. [8990 (51%) / 0 (0%) / 34 (0%)]
    6114 (35%) are still in progress. [6112 (35%) / 0 (0%) / 2 (0%)]

Of the tasks that have been returned successfully:

    3457 (38%) are pending validation. [3439 (38%) / 0 (0%) / 18 (0%)]
    5482 (61%) have been successfully validated. [5466 (61%) / 0 (0%) / 16 (0%)]
    34 (0%) were invalid. [34 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
    51 (1%) are inconclusive. [51 (1%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]

The current leading edge (i.e., latest work unit for which work has actually been sent out to a host) is n=16994608. The leading edge was at n=16629587 at the beginning of the challenge. Since the challenge started, the leading edge has advanced 2.20% as much as it had prior to the challenge!

    Still no primes.

With 10 hours remaining in the challenge, it's time to remind everyone...

At the Conclusion of the Challenge

We would prefer users "moving on" to finish those tasks they have downloaded, if not then please ABORT the WU's (and then UPDATE the PrimeGrid project) instead of DETACHING, RESETTING, or PAUSING.

ABORTING WU's allows them to be recycled immediately; thus a much faster "clean up" to the end of a Challenge. DETACHING, RESETTING, and PAUSING WU's causes them to remain in limbo until they EXPIRE. Therefore, we must wait until WU's expire to send them out to be completed. Thank you!

Setting most of mine to no more work. They have to have 10 hours to do the task, but still need time to finish what they have.
And LookAS is walking away from me now, oh well.

Hopefully 2 more will finish in time (the last one will be close) and the 3 ahead of me and behind me are done. If it works out like that I may get 60th.

Congrats to the Czech National team and their small army of crunchers taking the team crown.

Nice, bill1024 in the top 10!!
