Card: EVGA GTX 1060 SC GAMING ACX 2.0 Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Memory: 6144 MBytes of GDDR5 SDRAM [Micron] Current Driver: 24.21.13.9924 (GeForce 399.24) OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 This problem is of recent, as the card has worked perfect for nearly a year now, and I doubt the problem is with the card. Sometimes when I start the PC, everything is fine, shut down the PC, and the next time I start the PC, the video drivers do not load, and my Fonts are two inches high. Shut down the PC again, restart the PC again, and the video drivers may be loaded again, ...maybe not. Ive tried everything from doing a Repair Install of Windows 7, to dropping to Safe Mode and completely wiping out the NVIDIA drivers using, Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), and then once back in normal Windows reinstalling the latest GeForce drivers using the, "Perform A Clean Installation" option, and still, the problem persists. Ran, "SFC", from Command line, all is normal, as it should be after a six hour Repair Install. Driving me nuts worrying every time I turn on my PC, is my screen going to be normal, or am I going to have to reboot a few times to get it normal, just like Russian Roulette. Any help?

This reads more like a connection issue with the GPU with it's random nature. Have you reseated the GPU and all the electrical connections on the board and the PSU?

Have you reseated the GPU and all the electrical connections on the board and the PSU? HeavyHemi, I did indeed pull the card, and blow out the PCIEX16 slot on the MB with an air compressor. And then took my two inch dusting paint brush to clean the bottom of the card as well. Card works flawlessly, ...when the drivers load. Cool GTX What CPU, MB & PSU ? Hi when you first boot up your system do you notice if Nvidia control panel loads up? There is a chance that the driver has not loaded when you have this issue and the reason it happens randomly due to the driver loading other times. I would recommend using a different version of the driver other then this version you are using at the moment to see if this fixes this issues. If you do need further help please call EVGA Customer Support Line 1 (888) 880-3842 or Email Support@EVGA.com.

That's interesting. Some other folks have had issues with the newer drivers with the Turing enhancements. I believe it was *Unknown USB devices that were causing issues. Could be something similar. There's a lot of newer tech being integrated into GPUs which require drivers. Still riding the 775....that's probably a good GPU for it performance wise.

All hope is not lost. If you can get into the BIOS reset your BIOS to default. Then just set up the items you need to boot, AHCI, disabling CSM..whatever your typical procedure is, except leave your clock stock. If that gets you back into Windows, this update contains micro code that fudges up our BIOS and clocks. The fix is the mcupdate_genuineintel.dll that is installed in Windows/System32. Take ownership of that file, rename or delete it and replace it with a version prior to the patch. I used the July version in SXS backup.

Bios doesn't change a thing, theres a compatibility issue with the chipset, windowns and the gpu driver.Soon as I install any driver version,im blackscreened./ Ive also renamed the DLL file as well with permisions, doesnt help. I feel like the GPU is bad now for some reason, but I thought my CPU was bad too before I knew about the windows update...

Well, considering I am running the same motherboard and processor, I can guarantee it works. Have you updated the BIOS? It has had a couple of updates. Could you start a new thread on exactly what is happening?

Spoke too soon. There have been a few of the, "recently usual" occurrences with this driver also. While I thought 397.64 was the dream driver, for me, and it was at first install, now the drivers seem to back to their usual shenanigans. As a few examples: The other night I let the computer run over night, when I woke up, and turned on the screen, the screen was black. Usually a quick shake of the mouse is all it takes, but not this time. Black. So, I had to do the proverbial, "I cant see anything" proper shutdown of Windows, "Win Key / Right Arrow Key / Enter". Never knew that combo existed until the recent NVIDIA drivers. They forced me to have to learn that sequence. Another instance, while simply "noodling" around in Windows, nothing special, the screen just goes black. Mouse shake does nothing. At this point, I have to get up, pull the HDMI cable out of the back of the 1060, plug it back in, and then the screen comes back, but, all my programs have now been put up in the top left hand corner of the screen, and, all of my icons are no longer in the order that they were on my desktop. I also had to start using a program called, "DesktopOK", which remembers and puts your icons back they way you had them, just because this little snafu happens so much. Man I miss having NVIDIA drivers that just simply work, and I did have one for the longest time, but I'm one of those that take the newest driver as it becomes available. Silly me, but isn't that what your supposed to do with hardware? And in doing so, I have no idea what version driver worked flawlessly for me in the past.

You might want to try removing all NVIDIA drivers before reinstalling in case a file is causing an error and I would also wonder about the power supply if it's having problems waking up from sleep mode.

I have this exact same issue!! 980gtx. Been occurring since around Aug 2018 on Win10pro. Sometimes the drivers load on boot. When they do, the system runs flawlessly. Games with temps <60F full load. When they don't load, windows uses onboard video, with random resolutions. Device Manager says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I would expect if it was power supply (which my 800watt is 9 years old now) that I would see other issues while gaming, etc. Anyway, new drivers, old drivers...nothing fixes. The only fix, is reboot my system up to 25 times. one out of 25 times it seems to boot perfectly. (this ratio is getting worse over time) I've done complete installs of windows...nvidia drivers...and even replaced the bios battery. I suspect it is a compatability issue with win10 and nvidia drivers on older cards. Reminds me of when Apple used stealth updates to reduce performance of relatively older phones to 'protect the battery' and many unwitting consumers promptly bought new phones as a result.
