I am not certain, but I think he means if the card is run at that voltage 24x7 — like miners would do. Since the cards run on a curve, they would generally only hit those limits when needed and for short times under normal usage. He doesn’t specify, though, so this is just a guess from listening closely to what he says a few times to parse it.

Yes, running at that voltage 24x7 would be correct. Under normal usage with the voltage slider maxed out won't get you there.

Oh man, could you just imagine $1000 graphic cards with a one year lifespan?! Not really experienced in the details behind mining, but would such numbers still be feasible for mining? I mean, if the cards did die off yearly, and replacements were gonna be $1k each, do you still make enough to be profitable?

miners undervolt and crank up the fans, you're perpetuating a myth. emmett LOL, way to make people think twice about buying a used 2080. I better buy new!

Sajin No, but it pertains to evga's 20 series cards.
It would be nice if EVGA would Confirm this is a Real Issue on Their Cards. Because if this is true then You Can Longer Fold on EVGA's RTX Series of Graphics Cards and this Signals the End of EVGA's Support for Folding @ Home with their Company.

I don’t believe this has anything to do with folding. I doubt evga will stop support because of this.

I'm pretty sure it's not as simple as the entire lifespan of the card being reduced. Just like with CPU's and anything else, over time the degradation will require you to run higher and higher voltage to achieve the same clocks (of course assuming you can do so).

Tom does not seem as clear on the issue; as one would expect from an engineer Max Voltage of what exactly ? As Tom did mention the slider "sets the stage" & does Not automatically increase the Voltage. It sounded to me like there is more room in the card than the traditional slider may offer; but, those additional few mV are on the edge of safety. Leakage Voltage causes heat & kills electronics .... will have to see what actually ships & Final software tools

Tom has two modes of communication, marketing jargon and exquisite engineering detail. He acts kinda goofy there, but he is very smart cookie.

Cool GTX Max Voltage of what exactly ?
Three ticks higher than stock would be 1.093mv. Stock is 1.068mv.

Assuming they are using the same voltage bins as Pascal.

Okay? Not to be pedantic, but you're claiming exact voltages and voltage changes between bins which we don't know.

From context it seems like Nvidia isn't considering that save voltage though.
